Even during the diagnosis process, self-doubt can be loud 🙉

You might question your own experience.
Wonder if you’re “overreacting”.
Feel like you don’t deserve support.
Tell yourself that other people have it worse.

That inner voice is more common than people realise.

It’s just one of the things Michelle speaks openly about in our latest Thrive in 15 episode, as she shares her journey through diagnosis and the thoughts that came with it.

Do you know how to support your Neurodivergent colleagues?

Amy delivered a great session as part of Ren Talks to Renfrewshire employees this week. The session helped to understand what we can do to support our teams, and highlighted the importance of a strengths-based approach.

For many neurodivergent people, what others see is only part of the picture. On the surface, things may look calm, capable and “fine”. Underneath, there can be constant effort to watch, adjust and respond in ways that feel expected.

Masking often develops over time, and for many it becomes so automatic that it is hard to recognise. While it can help someone navigate the world, it can also come at a cost to energy, wellbeing and sense of self.

Understanding masking is often a turning point. It helps make sense of why things feel harder than they appear, and opens the door to more supportive, sustainable ways of coping đź’›

We explore this in more depth in our latest blog, including why masking happens and the impact it can have over time.

A small difference in wording, can change the meaning of it completely.

“Neurodivergent” describes an individual. “Neurodiverse” describes a group.

Mixing them up is easy, and incredibly common. But getting it right helps keep conversations clearer, more respectful, and more accurate, especially in schools, workplaces, and everyday life.

Because when we use language precisely, we make it easier for people to feel seen, understood, and included.

If you’d like to explore this further, we’ve written more about why language matters and how it shapes experience 👉 Neuropathwaysclinic.co.uk/why-is-language-so-important/

A name is never “just a name”.

In this Love on the Spectrum moment, Madison becomes overwhelmed when her name is shortened to “Maddie” instead of being called Madison.

For many autistic people, predictability, identity and clarity matter deeply. So when something that feels important is changed unexpectedly, it can trigger a genuine nervous system response - not an overreaction.

This clip is such a powerful reminder that support often starts with the small things:
listening, respecting preferences, and using the language that helps someone feel safe.

Sometimes, simply calling someone by the name they want to be called can make all the difference.

Not everything about how your mind works is obvious day to day. Sometimes it’s only when you pause and reflect that certain patterns start to stand out 🧠

If you found yourself leaning towards A in a few of these, your answers may suggest experiences that can sometimes be associated with ADHD.

If it’s sparked a bit of curiosity, our full ADHD Reflection Quiz goes a little deeper and can help you explore those patterns more clearly. Take the quiz 👉 neuropathwaysclinic.co.uk/adhd-reflection-quiz/

If you’re looking for more support or want to talk things through with a professional, you can also arrange a free Discovery Call with the team - no obligation, just a chance to chat and ask questions.

Ever left a social situation feeling completely drained… even though everything “went well”?

For many neurodivergent people, what looks like coping on the outside is actually constant effort underneath. Watching, analysing, adjusting. Over time, that effort can become exhausting 🥴

Masking is often misunderstood, yet it plays a huge role in missed diagnoses, burnout and the feeling of never quite being able to relax into yourself đź’›

We’ve written a blog exploring what masking really is, why it happens and the hidden cost of keeping it up.

Teen ADHD can look very different from what many people expect.

In this practical online webinar, Leanne Williams explores how ADHD shows up in teenagers and young adults - from shifting motivation and emotional intensity to executive functioning challenges that can affect school, home and friendships.

You’ll leave with clear, actionable strategies to help young people build realistic routines, manage distractions, strengthen self-advocacy and feel more understood rather than criticised. The focus is on practical support that works in real life, not theory.

This session is ideal for parents, carers, teachers and anyone working alongside neurodivergent young people who want tools they can start using straight away.

The words we use don’t just describe people, they shape how people understand themselves.

For many neurodivergent individuals, language can either feel like a label that limits… or a lens that finally makes sense of their experience. That difference matters more than we often realise.

Terms like “neurodivergent” aren’t about putting people into boxes. They’re about recognising that there isn’t one “right” way for a brain to work. When language reflects that, it can reduce shame, support identity, and open the door to more meaningful conversations , at home, in schools, and in everyday life.

And just as importantly, it helps move us away from asking “What’s wrong?” to asking “What’s different, and what support might help?”

If this resonates, we’ve explored it in more depth in our blog 👉 neuropathwaysclinic.co.uk/why-is-language-so-important/

A diagnosis can bring clarity, validation and a sense of understanding. But for many families, it can also raise a new question… what now?

Moving from understanding to support is not always straightforward. Real progress happens when insights are translated into everyday strategies that fit a person’s environment, energy and way of thinking. Without that, even the most detailed report can feel difficult to apply in daily life.

Support should be flexible, practical and responsive. It should grow with the individual, not remain fixed on a moment in time. Most importantly, it should help families feel more confident in what to do next đź’›

Autism in girls is often missed not because it is absent, but because it can look different. Many learn early on how to adapt, observe and fit in, developing ways to navigate social situations that can mask what they are really experiencing underneath.

Over time, this can lead to a quiet kind of exhaustion. On the surface everything may appear “fine”, but internally there may be anxiety, overwhelm or a sense of not quite understanding why things feel harder than they should.

Understanding these differences is not about looking for something that was missed. It is about recognising patterns that may have been misunderstood, and creating space for a more accurate and compassionate understanding đź’›
