Our next Big Cwtch is nearly here! This coming Tuesday, we are focusing on nourishing our youngest Villagers.

We know that starting solids with our little’uns can feel like a big milestone, so we’ve invited Varsha, a fellow Mam and registered Paediatric Dietitian with 19 years of NHS experience, to be our Village Visitor. She’s here to take the stress out of weaning with a simple chitchat over a brew.

🔍 New research: How do parents actually use portion guides for young children?

A recent qualitative study explored parents’ experiences of using an age-appropriate portion guide for children aged 1–4 years.

Key insights include:
• Parents valued the guide as a helpful tool for promoting balance and limiting less healthy foods
• However, it was rarely used directly to determine portion sizes
• Some elements were viewed as impractical or unrealistic in everyday use
• Portion decisions were largely guided by parent judgement and children’s cues

Overall, while portion guides may have limited impact on portioning behaviour, they remain a valued resource that can positively influence wider feeding practices.

Breastfeeding matters and Breastfeeding in public matters too. For more babies to be breastfed, we need to normalise breastfeeding in society and improve the visibility of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding in public spaces helps to do both.
By law, breastfeeding mothers are protected to feed their baby anywhere they wish to.
On that note, Happy Easter weekend Everyone, if you see a breastfeeding mum please tell her she is doing a great job🤱 👏❤️

Recipe for Peanut Butter and Chocolate Granola:

Ingredients:
Rolled Oats- 2 cups
Peanut Butter- 1/3 cup
Mixed Nuts ( chopped or ground)- 1/2 cup
Golden syrup/ Honey/ maple syrup- 1/4 cup
Mixed seeds- 2 tbsp
Cooking chocolate ( both milk and dark chocolate- 6-8 squares, chopped
Vanilla extract- 1 tsp

Method:
Pre-heat the oven to 160 degrees.
Pour all the ingredients into a large bowl and mix well until the oats are coated with the peanut butter and the syrup.
Take a rectangular baking tray and spread with greaseproof paper. Spread the granola mixture on the tray and press the mixture into a thin layer.
Bake at 160 degrees for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Place on a wire rack to cool. Once cooled completely, break the granola into clusters and place in an airtight container.
Serve with milk, yoghurt, custard or simply have a snack, enjoy! 😊
