New year, new goals. We're back in the office after the Christmas break and talking about our New Year's resolutions. Some of ours include:

🏊 Completing a 5k swim
🪂 Doing a skydive (yes, really)
🎿 Learning to ski
🏃 Running 10k in under an hour
🎨 Acrylic painting twice a week
⛳ Taking introductory golf lessons
🎶 Re-joining a local choir
💪 Returning to pre-accident levels of fitness and to taekwondo

Some are fitness, some are fun, and some about doing things that make us slightly nervous - but they're all about encouraging ourselves out of our comfort zones and giving something new a go.

We'd love to hear yours too. What are you aiming for this year?

A productive start to the day for our team today.

Some of us have spent the morning brushing up on our face fit knowledge, with a training session delivered by one of our face fit testers, Lucy.

We've been refreshing skills, sharing best practice, and making sure we're all up to date.

A big thank you to everyone who has donated IT equipment to support the Wiltshire Digital Drive this year 💻👏

Thanks to the generosity of our local community, we've been able to pass on 74 devices to the Wiltshire Digital Drive CIC team in 2025.

For anyone unfamiliar with their work, the charity refurbishes donated IT equipment and redistributes it to individuals, families, schools and community projects across Wiltshire who need digital access the most - while also helping reduce e-waste.

We're proud to be a Donation Station for Wilts Digital Drive. Please keep bringing us your unwanted laptops, tablets, Macbooks and keyboards in 2026!

Who else is wearing their Christmas jumper today? 🎄

We've joined in with the vibe in the office. Even two of our health & safety consultants out on a customer visit have worn them and, totally unplanned, some of the customer's team happened to be wearing theirs too, so they all jumped in for a quick photo.

It's the simple things that lift the festive mood during a busy week! 🎅

The HSE has launched proposals to improve how businesses manage asbestos, and they’re asking for feedback from employers, contractors, and safety professionals.

Key changes being proposed:
• Making all roles in the 4-stage clearance process independent
• Improving the quality of asbestos surveys
• Clarifying what counts as Notifiable Non-Licensed Work

Sally, our OH Adviser, has just finished decorating the office tree - and while it's looking very festive, it's also the perfect reminder to tick off a few seasonal safety checks:

✅ Are your Christmas lights PAT tested?
✅ Any damage on cables? (If yes, retire them, don’t tape them!)
✅ Don’t overload extension leads — we know it’s tempting
✅ Candles? Our Fire Risk Assessor won’t even look at them
✅ Power down anything that doesn’t need to stay on over Xmas
✅ Check all windows and doors are locked before close-down
✅ Keep wrapping paper and boxes away from heaters and exit routes
✅ No tinsel near heaters — it’s sparkly, not safe
✅ Watch out for ice or slippery leaves outside

A few quick checks now = a peaceful, drama-free Xmas break 🎄

📊 1.9 million workers faced work-related ill health in 2024/25
😟 Nearly 1 million cases of stress, depression, or anxiety linked to work
💸 £22.9 billion cost to the economy
⏳ 40.1 million working days lost

Mental health is now the biggest workplace challenge.

What can employers do?

✅ Review stress risk assessments
✅ Train managers to spot early signs of burnout
✅ Invest in preventative measures like ergonomic checks and mental health resources

From October 2025, catastrophic bleed control is being introduced into First Aid at Work (FAW) training - including improvised tourniquets and wound-packing techniques.
