We have all felt overwhelmed by our own thoughts, the relentless chatter. One thought leads to another and another.
Before you know it, you have built a whole story that is overwhelming and not helpful.

You try to focus on the present moment, but your attention wanders far away to the story you have built up.
This is known as the monkey mind. 🐒 🧠.

Calming your monkey mind is possible by understanding what you can and cannot control.

One simple technique to start you off is focusing on your breath.

Find somewhere quiet and get comfortable.
Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. Inhale and exhale and pay attention to your abdomen gently rising and feel the beat of your heart.

You may notice at first shallow breathing, the rise and fall of your abdomen rising in quick succession.

Give yourself 5 minutes for this activity and you should notice a subtle difference. If your monkey mind wanders, that is absolutely fine, just bring your awareness back to your breathing.
