Many people still believe NHS hearing aids are bulky, outdated, and inferior to private options — but is that really true?

In this video, I share a real NHS patient story that completely challenges those assumptions. After avoiding NHS hearing aids for more than 10 years due to a bad past experience, this patient returned feeling sceptical… and left genuinely amazed.

👂☕ Hello from Veda Hearing! ☕👂

This little caricature captures a few things close to my heart — my love for coffee, books, creativity, and most importantly, my work as an audiologist. At Veda Hearing, my mission is simple: to create awareness, understanding, and compassion around tinnitus and hearing loss.

Living with hearing concerns can feel overwhelming and isolating, but you’re not alone. Through this page, I hope to share knowledge, practical tips, encouragement, and reassurance — whether you’re someone experiencing tinnitus, supporting a loved one, or just curious to learn more about hearing health.

Thank you for being here, for listening, and for helping spread awareness. 💚
Let’s keep the conversations (and the learning!) going.

If you don't know already, I will be at the Somerset Libraries Taunton on the 28th of February between 10 AM to 12 Noon. So please drop by to ask me anything about hearing loss, hearing aids and tinnitus. Looking forward to seeing you there xx

Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉

One of the biggest reasons I got into Audiology was because I wanted to help create a world that’s more inclusive for people with hearing loss — a world where communication isn’t a struggle. I’ve always been amazed by how much technology like hearing aids can truly change lives.

I’ve been thinking for a while about finding ways to help people learn more about hearing loss, hearing aids, and becoming more deaf-aware — and I’ve finally decided to take the plunge!

I’ll be at Somerset Libraries, Taunton on 24th January and 28th February from 10 AM to 12 Noon for a relaxed, walk-in information session. No appointments, no pressure — just drop by for a chat! I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have about hearing loss, hearing aids, or tinnitus.

Really looking forward to meeting some of you there and having some lovely conversations. 😁

Beltone tinnitus calmer app.

Is your tinnitus very bothersome and you are unable to sleep, or enjoy peace and quiet? If yes, then this application may be useful for you!

The Beltone Tinnitus Calmer is free to download and available both for iOs and for Android. No, this is not a sponsored post - I am just sharing it because I personally find it very good.

The interface of the App is user friendly and it is quite easy to navigate (I say this as a first hand digital dinosaur 🤣). The application has a variety of sounds that you can listen to or even combine in order to make your own soundscape. You can set the sound in your background at a soft volume and even set a timer to it so that it switches off in a bit by itself!

Aside from this, there is mental imagery and short guided meditation videos that are really relaxing. I have often resorted to using these at the end of a busy day or when I feel anxious about something.

It is important to remember that we use sound enrichment to facilitate habituation to tinnitus and not to drown it out, so please ensure that the volume of the soundscape is softer than your tinnitus.

I will explain the reason behind this in my next post - tinnitus is not only to do with our ears, but goes much deeper into the manner in which our brain processes the sounds.

Hope you all had a lovely day x

Troubleshooting your hearing aid!

Many times when our hearing aid stops working, we can do some simple troubleshooting at home that will get your hearing aids up and running in no time.

Here are 3 quick checks that you can do at home before picking up the phone to make an appointment with your audiologist. Some of them may seem obvious, but believe me, 11 years in the field and I still see these happening almost every day!

1. Check the hearing aid batteries. Sometimes it may be that the batch of batteries that you are using is faulty, if replacing a battery from the same pack doesn't help, please try one from a fresh pack. Also check if the battery is inserted the right way up. Incorrect battery placement will prevent your hearing aid from switching on!

2. Clean the hearing aid microphone. If you can hear crackling or if the sound you hear is muffled and unclear, it may just be that the hearing aid microphone is dusty. Use the cleaning brush supplied with your hearing aid to gently clean the microphones. Do not use a wet wipe or poke anything into the mic as that may damage them.

3. If you have an earmould, try cleaning or replacing the tubing. The mould tubing needs to be replaced every 6 months or so and can easily get blocked with wax, preventing the flow of sound from the hearing aid to your ears, making the volume much softer than it really is. Sometimes it can block the sound out completely too. The same goes for the thin tubes as well. Thin tubes can easily get blocked or even kinked whilst inserting them into our ears. Try passing the cleaning wire through the thin tube to unblock it. If you see a kink in the tube, change it.

If none of these methods work, then make an appointment to have the hearing aid looked at. Most user guides come with a small troubleshooting guide at the end, have a look if yours has one too.

Another important point to remember is that if you feel that your hearing has changed, you will need to make an appointment for having your hearing re-tested and the hearing aid reprogrammed.

If you notice that your hearing has reduced overnight or very suddenly, make an emergency appointment with your GP or attend the A&E as it needs immediate intervention.

Hope this post is helpful. Share with your friends who have a hearing aid so that they can make use of these tips!

See you again tomorrow, good night xx
