I love May for its beautiful sites, sounds and smells. The cuckoos are certainly making their presence known.

Around half of the world’s population of bluebells are found in Britain! 🤩

Did you know Bluebells are Protected under UK law?

Issues are:
- Bulb digging (historically a problem)
- Trampling by visitors, which compacts soil and damages growth
- Hybridisation with non-native Hyacinthoides hispanica, which can dilute the native species

👉 What you can do
- Stick to paths when walking through bluebell areas
- Avoid picking them
- Never dig up bulbs or transplant them

Enjoy them before they go.

White bluebells are quite unusual - only about 1 in 10,000 bluebells bloom white. Their pale color comes from a natural genetic variation that stops them from producing blue pigment. Keep an eye for them.

We decided to go late afternoon to miss the rain and crowds and what a treat it was. Dartmoor at its best! This lovely couple from China and Singapore were such wonderful company.

A couple of hours between walks meant I could nip down to for this very informative Q&A about Restoring Dartmoor - bringing in different perspectives but sounds like we are (slowly) going in a positive direction - nature can’t be rushed. Always good to hear these talks so I can bring them in to my conversations on Dartmoor.
