On Friday 29th, we had the honor of being a part of the Telford and Wrekin Recovery Launch, which has been set up by Dame Carol Black and supported by Telford & Wrekin Council.

Witnessing all the wonderful pledges made in support of the Recovery Launch has been wonderful and will make a huge difference within the community. During this event, it was highlighted that Telford and Wrekin are recognised as the blueprint for recovery services nationwide. At Telford STaRS, we aspire to continue to help by providing the best possible services we can for the Telford and Wrekin community and continue improving awareness and access to recovery support.

We made the following pledges:

Telford STaRS will…

⭐ Work collaboratively with Telford’s Recovery Community Organisations. We will actively listen, respect and value lived experience. We will co-produce care and champion the growth of services that reflect personal recovery goals, strengths, and choices.

⭐ Within our young people service, make early intervention and education a priority, providing young people with the key knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed choices and build resilience against drug and alcohol use.

⭐ Tackle Stigma and Health Inequalities. We will challenge harmful stereotypes and identify and address structural barriers to care, to ensure people who use our services have equal access to wider health care systems to support their recovery journey.

Harm reduction to us is about meeting people where they are, with compassion and without judgement, to improve health. This means providing information and strategies to reduce negative consequences associated with substance use.

On this page you can find some of our best advice to reduce the harms associated with drugs and help you stay safe ➡️ https://orlo.uk/Up51G

📢 Emergency alert testing on Sunday 7 September at 3pm 📢

On Sunday 7 September at 3pm, UK Government will be testing emergency alert system (EAS) for the second-ever nationwide test. This test causes mobile phones or tablets to:

🚨 Make a loud siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds, even if it's set on silent. It may also cause a device to vibrate or read out the alert.
💬 A message will appear on your screens making it clear the alert is only a test.
➡️ Find out more about the Emergency Alerts on GOV.UK. Emergency Alert Test: Frequently Asked Questions - https://orlo.uk/qgLn0

If you are affected by domestic abuse and have a concealed mobile phone, you may not wish the sound of the alert to draw attention to your phone. How you opt out depends on your device. Full instructions telling you how to opt out are available at [https://orlo.uk/jAtie]

If domestic abuse is happening to you, it's important to tell someone and remember you're not alone. If you do not feel safe or believe there is an immediate threat, call 999.

More support available:
📌 For confidential, non-judgemental information and support, women can call The Freephone National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge on 0808 2000 247 for free at any time, day or night or talk to a doctor, health visitor, or midwife.
📌 Men can call Respect Men's Advice Line on 0808 8010 327 (Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm) or visit the webchat at Men's Advice Line (Wednesday 10am to 11:30am and 2pm to 4pm) for non-judgemental information and support.

September is International Recovery Month, a time to celebrate the progress made by everyone who is in recovery, support access to treatment and push back against stigma. 💙

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day and we are remembering every person who has been lost to overdose.

We aim to reduce stigma surrounding substance use and highlighting the importance of raising awareness and advocating for better overdose prevention understanding. Talking about it today could make a huge difference, not only to you and the people around you, but also to the world we live in.

📣 Always make sure to ask for support if you, or someone you know, needs it.
