Determined to make a difference in Telford, Colleen Francesca Powell founded More Than Care in 2019 completely on her own, with one clear mission:
To help older, isolated adults reconnect with their community, build friendships, and live fulfilling lives.
In those early days, Colleen poured her absolute all into the business -working long hours, evenings and weekends, doing everything from care visits to admin, networking to community outreach. More Than Care wasn’t just a company -it was personal.
When Covid-19 hit, everything changed overnight. But instead of stepping back, Colleen adapted.
More Than Care quickly transformed into a vital shopping and prescription collection service, ensuring vulnerable adults across Telford had access to essentials during an incredibly frightening time.
As restrictions eased, Colleen recognised another growing need - rebuilding confidence. Many older adults felt anxious about going back out into the community. More Than Care stepped in once again, accompanying individuals back into shops, cafés, appointments and social groups, helping them regain independence and self-belief.
What started as a small, passionate vision has grown into a professional, person-centred service regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
Under Colleen’s leadership, More Than Care has evolved from a micro-provider into a respected care company known for compassion, quality & consistent staffing.
She has worked closely with Telford and Wrekin Council Adult Social Care, building strong relationships with social workers and healthcare professionals across the area.
Although Colleen has now taken a step back from the day-to-day running of the company, she remains a constant source of guidance and support for our Registered Manager Carl and Care Coordinator Sian — always there to talk through difficult situations & offer guidance & reassurance.
She is the first to say that More Than Care would not be what it is today without Carl and Sian’s loyal support and dedication. Their teamwork, shared values and commitment have been instrumental in the company’s growth.
Since stepping back, Colleen has embraced a new venture — opening her own dog grooming salon, Amigos, named in loving memory of her late dog Amigo, who she adored dearly.
Her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for care now extend to four-legged friends too!
In her spare time, Colleen treasures time with her husband Kieron along with their daughter and two dogs. Family has always been at the centre of everything she does, and it’s that same warmth and heart that she brings into her work 🦋.
