My name is Kate, a passionate Yoga practitioner and teacher who came to discover an authentic Yoga experience whilst travelling India in 2014...and consequently fell in love with the discipline. This love affair with yoga began with fiery Ashtanga primary series which was the style of yoga that changed the way I felt about the whole practice. It gave me a strong challenging sequence that I could follow everyday but, more importantly perhaps, it opened my eyes to the power of my body/mind connection. This connection was something I realised was missing from my life as it was certainly not taught at my school! Learning to be accepting of who you are and what you are in the present moment is seemingly fundamental to simple happiness yet also incredibly difficult to achieve, let alone maintain. But by using the skills of Yoga/meditation I started to embark on this pragmatic journey of calming my mind and body and living more freely from my anxieties. Exploring a wider range of Yoga styles guided me to Yin Yoga and Mindfulness mediation which complemented the fiercer Ashtanga, helping keep the balance in all aspects of my life. Something I only dreamed I could accomplish. We can often be scared away from Yoga as we don’t necessarily understand what it entails and why people practice. Seeing difficult postures which involved great strength and flexibility can seem daunting, however most Yoga is practiced to stir up what is going on inside and not what our bodies look like. We are all individual, so no posture is the same and we don’t have to be able to get our head on our legs to be a yogi. By definition Yoga means, to join/unite, so the purpose of me setting up this page was to invite people from all backgrounds (with or without Yoga experience) to share their interests and journeys around this vast and fascinating topic. I would like us to all link together in sharing interesting ideas, articles about all forms of Yoga, including great class’s people are holding or attending and inspirational teachers and teaching practices you have come across. In other words, everything Yoga! If we try to gain a wider understanding of what we perceive about Yoga today and explore this immense subject, maybe we can engage more and more people even those who only have a little spark of interest. We can all learn something new and help reveal to each other why this practice is so special. Yoga is for everyone and anyone and what is so captivating is how you can apply the practical skills developed into your everyday modern way of being.....with or without the flexibility. Be open minded, take a look and enjoy the discovery of a happier and calmer way of life called Yoga. If you have any questions please email me personally or on the wall and let’s all be mindful and compassionate about what we post. Namaste
(May the divine light in me be with the divine light in you)
