Climbing at Holyhead Mountain in Anglesey... in my element! It really helps when you get to spend the day with beautiful souls, with the biggest hearts, who totally geek out on ropes, rocks, birds, plants and the weather.

I first became curious about climbing when I did my mountain leader training in 2024 and kept meeting ML climbers. I thought ‘wow these people are inspiring... but why do they keep banging on about climbing’. Then I tried it to see what the fuss was all about. I was like ‘ooooooohhh now I get it’.

This is me taking out gear on a 27m climb, before getting to lead climb the same route 🙈😁

Deeply thankful for the incredible support from my friend Bob to make this happen. Some people are a blessing on this earth. Not to mention the incredible weather Gods who pulled out the best blue skies 🥰

Learning to do stuff when you are over 50+ means you often get to spend time with people who are far more experienced and knowledgeable than you 😁

Sometimes older people like the ‘elders of the tribe’, for whom I have the deepest respect… who’ve lived and breathed it since they were knee high! And then theres the younguns in their 30’s who have such a vibrant passion for learning and inspiring others.

Theres so much to learn with climbing. For safety. For smoothness. For joy 😁 And especially so when learning to lead on trad.

Deeply grateful for the beautiful souls who show up my life to light the way. It means I get to do things I never dreamed possible 😊 and develop an ever deeper connection with the Earth, the rocks, the wildlife in places I never imagined I’d be.

This is overlooking Llyn Padarn on truly spectacular day last week. On a clear day like this you can see the Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) mountain ⛰️ range.

This was by Lion’sRock just before a climb. Inspired by the beauty of the land and water and listening closely to the stories that the rocks tell, as always 😍

Wishing you a beautiful weekend.

Learning how to abseil indoors. We were outdoors climbing but after 3pm the heavens opened and the rain 🌧️ poured 😜

Can you tell I enjoy this? 😁🤣

New knots to learn and so much to practice. Wonderful company… I find most climbers are an absolute joy to hang with. We talk about incredibly interesting climbing and rock and mountain things all day long 🤣🙌 Not for everyone haha but it lights me up.

I honestly don’t know where I am half the time 🤣 This was me missing a turning in the car and I just kept going… and ended up somewhere completely unintended 😁

Was a very peaceful in the hugely welcomed sun ☀️ The crags, rocks, wildlife and views were spectacular.
Didn’t see another soul!

Just sat here playing solitaire with my playing cards 😁✨

It’s an excellent and unexpected way to learn the Harvey’s system while spotting your favourite places and finding new ones that you suddenly want to explore 🤣

If you arrange the cards in order you create a map of the area.

Jack of clubs locates Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre ✨

4 of spades ♠️ you’ll find Yr Wyddfa (formerly called Snowdon).

I’d love to play cards with people who get as excited about maps as I do 🤣

A little abandoned quarry exploration today.
Lots of nooks and crannies. So many plants and little creatures thriving.
A beautiful way to connect with nature as she reclaims herself.

I’ve immersed myself in climbing… enjoying this beautiful art every spare second I can 😁

Between my local climbing wall here and North West Face in Warrington I’ve somehow found myself climbing a few times a week recently 🙈 Bordering on obsession!

Meeting the most amazing souls with the biggest hearts who constantly restore my faith in humanity 😜😍

I recently crossed a threshold and can now honestly say I am a climber 😂🙌✨ The journey continues.

Ps the awesome young man in the first pic I caught accidentally when I was watching my lovely new friends on the adjacent lead wall. His climb was masterful. He slipped in that moment which would have mean a huge tumble to the crash mat… yet he caught the hold and gently pulled himself back to complete the climb. I then found him to say ‘you’ll never believe but I caught that shot’ he was well chuffed 🙌

This is what I’m reading at the moment, and I genuinely cannot recommend it highly enough.

Mike Raine does far more than outline the syllabus. He explains what it really means to be a Mountain Leader in the UK. The discernment needed, the responsibility, the decision making in the grey areas when there is no perfect answer.

For me, it is filling in gaps I did not even realise were there. It is answering the questions I have carried around but never quite articulated. It feels like someone experienced is calmly talking through the realities of the role and what good leadership actually looks like in the hills.

Clear, practical and grounded in real experience, it is written in a way that genuinely holds my attention. I am finding it hard to put down.

Mike is here if you want to explore further.

I took these at the beginning of the month. A cold but clear sunny day.

Nature is raw. Real. She does not judge, she listens and dances and tells you all kinds of beautiful things ✨

This walk one involved truly spectacular views of Oxwich Bay and Three Cliffs Bay and a cup of Rooibos Tea with oat milk in a thermos flask 😁✨

Love & Gratitude
