On Social Prescribing Day, I’m reflecting, as a pharmacist, a clinical aromatherapist and a whole-person health and integrative care advocate,on the quieter, often overlooked ways we support health beyond prescriptions.

The bumblebee. Unhurried. Purposeful. In rhythm with its world.

🌿 Sensory experiences like scent and touch

These aren’t “extras” — they are foundational to how we regulate, restore, and heal.

A Tuesday "TIPP"

When emotions spike, simple tools can help you regain control. TIPP therapy (Temperature, Intense Exercise, Paced Breathing, and Progressive Muscle Relaxation) is a powerful way to calm your body quickly and safely.

Small additions, like aromatherapy (did you know we have some oils which have been shown to influence brain chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin?) can be beautiful additions to further promote and support calm, when used safely.

Of course, your safety comes first. Using "TIPP" is never a replacement for medical intervention, but it can be a helpful tool to use when dealing with life's stresses. Use what works for you, and take care of your body as you reset. 💙

Healing from the ground up 🌿

Gardening nourishes both the body and mind by reconnecting us with nature’s rhythms and even calming our nervous system.

But there’s also something incredible happening beneath the surface: the microbiome.

Healthy soil is alive with beneficial microbes that interact with our own skin and immune system. A small scale study from the USA revealed exposure to these microorganisms can influence our own microbiota with families who garden having increased diversity.

A diverse gut microbiome can influence health, reduce inflammation, and even boost mood through the gut-brain connection.

As Neurodiversity Celebration Week comes to a close, I see how traditional "wellness" doesn't always fit. When the goal shifts from the ambition to "fix", to supporting and understanding each unique rhythm, the impact is far-reaching.

Whether you’re navigating the sensory intensity of menopause or the daily hum of an ADHD or autistic brain, your experience is simply yours. It's not "wrong", it's not "too much" (but it can feel too much), it's yours.

To my neurodivergent community: I see the stories you keep private for fear of judgment. May you find spaces—and scents—that allow you to breathe exactly as you are. 🤍

As Neurodiversity Week comes to an end, it's time to reflect......

We don't all think, focus, or process the world in the same way. Every brain works differently.

When it comes to delivering aromatic and wellness support, it's about meeting the client at a place where they can be at that moment.

Understanding that a favourite shower gel can be more effective than complex essential oil blends, if it brings a smile.

It's about appreciating where eye contact is uncomfortable.
