Torfaen Talks CIC Connecting our community and supporting your wellbeing

🎉 TORFAEN TALKS CIC TURNS 2 🎉
It’s been another year of amazing interactions with the community, from delivering forums to co-hosting wreath making workshops.
Thank you so much for engaging with us (even if it’s liking our page), taking part in one of wellbeing workshops, or referring into our “pay what you can” counselling service.
It makes everything we do voluntarily worth while. This year alone we’ve held digital drop ins, hosted a weekly men’s group, held wellbeing drop in sessions, started a ladies only walking group, held sessions for parents and children to support their mental health, delivered Neurodiversity awareness, held Mindfulness sessions, Menopause 6 week course, Mindful art sessions, and even opened Christmas Day for Cake and Company.
In the last 2 years we’ve delivered almost 1000 counselling sessions in Torfaen. Helping to make mental health support accessible to all.
None of this would have been possible without our fantastic volunteer trustees, our wonderful volunteer counsellors and those who collaborate with us (being our biggest cheerleaders) your support never goes unnoticed. We’ve even been a chosen organisation of a community council.
We’re proud of all we’ve achieved in these last two years, all voluntary with a bit of luck, fantastic support and a lot of hard graft.
Wish us Happy Birthday 🥳

LISTENING SAVES LIVES
Sometimes we don’t know the importance of listening until it’s too late.
Here, Sophie demonstrates both sides of a conversation where one side is trying to say how they feel but the other side is being dismissive. (Sophie winks at the end to reassure you she is acting and is okay)
We can feel that only a trained professional can have these conversations, but this isn’t true. By really listening, hearing what someone is saying can save their life. Hold them in that moment and refer to a professional but the power of hearing someone’s words is vital.
In this conversation, there are at least 3 occasions that the person has tried to speak about their feelings.
Talking about mental health is important and so are you.
If you’re at crisis point and wanting to talk to someone The Samaritans are available on 116 123
For counselling support contact us at Torfaen Talks CIC for non-urgent referrals

What does the future of Neurodiverse support look like in Gwent? What’s missing, what’s needed, and what worries there are as a parent or caregiver of a child.

We held three Neuro Club sessions with thanks to Dr Charlie Cowtan and Re-framing emotions and anxiety in children. for helping facilitate these vital conversations.

The main thank you is to everyone who shared their story. Without you and your lived experiences, Neuro Club wouldn’t have been the success it was.

Every voice and completed form will be compiled and presented to key decision makers in health, statutory and education. Your voices matter and we feel privileged to be in a position to amplify them.

You can still contribute by visiting here: https://www.torfaentalkscic.org.uk/neuroclub-consultation

And we’ll be sharing more events around our shortly.

End of an era at Happy Kids Wales! 🌟

Today, we are saying a very fond (and slightly tearful) farewell to the wonderful Andrea, who is officially retiring. Andrea has been Happy Kids Wales, a friend to all, and a second "mum" to so many little ones over the years.

Andrea, your kindness and patience will be missed by everyone you've helped or supported.

Thank you for the countless memories and for making Happy Kids Wales the way it has been.

Torfaen Talks CIC will be delivering in due course and we hope to do you proud, but for now, please join us in wishing Andrea the happiest, most relaxing retirement! 🥂✨
