It was lovely to see my face and neck lift patient a year after surgery - I last saw her 6-months ago and since then, the confidence boost that her surgery has given her prompted her to radically change her lifestyle - exercising and eating more healthily. Amazingly, this resulted in her losing 2.5 stone (16kg)!

How people’s skin and soft tissues behave after weight loss following surgery can be very variable. One unknown is whether deflation of soft tissues will result in further sagging so it was really good to see how well my patient’s skin and soft tissues had held up after such weight loss in a relatively short period.

She really looks amazing and her positivity and confidence radiates as soon as she walks into the clinic 😊

One of the challenges some people experience over time is a profound increase in skin excess to the upper eyelids - when this is combined with a low eyebrow position, it can actually cause functional problems with a reduced visual field - “window shading”

This 48-year old patient is only 6-weeks after her upper blepharoplasty and you can already appreciate the reduction in skin and opening up of her eyes.

The “purist” might argue that she would also have benefited from a brow lift, and whilst I agree with this, it takes things up a level in terms of surgical involvement and it can always be done separately in the future and it is not always something a patient may want to do.

She has a wonderfully natural appearance that has alleviated her functional issues and given her an outcome where she still looks like herself 😊

Surgery included breast cases, some body contouring, facial surgery - the whole spectrum!

There is no such thing as being too late to consider treating a lifelong anxiety or problem.

Breast under development can have a significant psychological and social impact and I am seeing an increasing number of patients in their 40s, 50s, 60s and even 70s 💪

This patient of mine is now one year after a subtle and proportionate breast augmentation using 170cc anatomical implants which are placed partly under the muscle.

It has given her a new chapter in her life, restored an incredible amount of confidence and given her the freedom not to be way down by her lifelong anxiety about how she always used to feel about her body image 😀

Restorative breast surgery is one of the cornerstones of my practice - it is incredibly rewarding surgery as it can make such a positive difference to my patients’ lives 😊

This patient ( big 🙏 to her!) is now nearly a year after surgery having undergone a combination breast lift with implants - I used Mentor CPG 322 255cc anatomical implants in a sub-fascial plane.

In order to reliably shape the breast, it is important to remove some of the redundant low lying tissue in the lower pole - in this patient around 50g was removed per breast. Therefore in one way you can think of this as a modest size increase of 200cc or so. This is between 1-2 cup sizes. However…to confound this thought process a little more, the effect of the breast lift will be to make the breast seem a little smaller! You can see why it can be very hard to “promise” a size with this sort of surgery.

So, at the end of the day it is shape that always comes before size, and the implant that can be used should really be tailored to the individual and her breast dimensions.

Breastfeeding can have really significant consequences on the structure support and shape of the breast 🤔 particularly after breastfeeding three or four babies.

Over time these changes gradually progress and can cause really significant psychological distress. They can also cause functional problems such as infections under the breast, sweating and cause skin marks from the rubbing of the skin of the breast against the chest wall.

Mastopexy is the technical term for a breast lift and is what my patient in these photographs has undergone. Contrary to popular belief, it does not necessarily need to have an implant involved and this 54- year old (yes, 54!) patient has actually had her shape restored and reconstructed using her own breast tissue, which has been rearranged inside the breast - to improve the shape and contour with excess skin being removed. This means she maintains the same volume she had beforehand, but the breast is lifted into a place it used to sit at, prior to breastfeeding.

The psychological improvement after surgery can make this a life changing procedure and provide a significant improvement to mental health 😊.

I am delighted that my patient shown here is as thrilled with her results as I am!
