Day 5- the final day.
Up at 5 to have breakfast and leave for 6. Set up the checkpoint ready for the first runners at 720. A few loosening off of muscles but mainly filling up water bottles. The last runner was through at 820. We then ventured into the TPC town for some second breakfast of the local mtori and look at the local market.
Back to camp to watch the first runners through at 11. Then managed to sneak in a run in the bush before cheering the amazing runners home all day.
Now at the TOC club for a celebratory bbq

Day 4- the long one
Up at 3 to strap runners before they left at 4. Able to go back to sleep for half an hour then out of the tent so they could be packed up by 530.
We then had a 2 hour journey to our checkpoint, passing the first 2 runners as we drove down the route.
On the way we saw baboons and wilder beasts but then went the wrong way and got stuck in the grass/mud.
Managed to get to the our checkpoint, after being rescued, in plenty of time for the first runners coming through at 915.
Runners were coming through until 430, many very low, 58k in on a very hot day. We lifted spirits, fed and watered them, and did a few retapes, calf and quad massages.
We were in our new camp at 5pm, settled in and got to try the new showers! Then got to treating the last lot of runners until 730pm. General leg flushes, quads, glutes, shins and calves were the main areas worked on.
All finished with a beer by the campfire.

Day 3- the day the runners climbed Kili 🏔️
Up at 4 for breakfast and on the road at 5 for the journey to checkpoint 1! Got there and were set up by 6. The first runners came in at 620 through till 8am. Mainly filling water bottles and cheering but a few small treatments to loosen off the calves as it was 10k of uphill to us.
We were back at camp for 9 and had some time to chill and take on lots of coffee before the first 2 runners came through just before 11.
It was then discovered we ran out of massage lotion, so a quick trip was made to the local supermarket to get more.
We then started our post run clinic. It was mostly calved glutes and quads from the hills again, as well as a few niggles coming out needing more focus on specific areas.

Day 2-
Up at 430 so the runners could set off for sunrise, at the checkpoint for 7, first runner through at 815. Just filling up water bottles and cheerleading.
Last runner through at 9 and we were packing up.
We then had a 40 minute drive to our next campsite at Marangu on the border to the national park. We passed lots of local villages with them selling fruit on the side of the road.
We were back at camp for 1030, for the first runner to come through at 11. We set up the therapist tent and had shifts of an hour or 2 between 12 and 6.
Main treatment areas were quads and calves from the up and down hills.
The runners are in high spirits and ready to venture up Kilimanjaro tomorrow!

Day 1-
Up at 530 for breakfast (we get the luxury of meals made by a local chef). Had a few runners to tape for previous injuries/ niggles.
Runners set off at 730 and we had our check point set up by 8 for the first runners to come through at 820. No treatments at the checkpoint today, we were only 11k into the first day so everyone was feeling fresh.
The last runners came through at 10 and we were back at camp to see the first runner finish at 1020. 35k completed in 50 minutes 🥵.
Then it was back to camp to set up the treatment clinic and we were back to back from 11-2 when we were relieved by some fellow therapists from other checkpoints.
Most treatments were general leg flushes to release any tension and help remove lactic acid. A few niggles, mainly IT band, glutes and ankles from the uneven ground.

I am pleased to announce that as of Thursday the 28th April, I will be working at Princess Royal Hospital as a physiotherapy assistant.

I will have appointments in the evening on some weekdays and morning appointments on Saturdays.

This weekend, my wonderful client and primary school teacher is running the London Marathon for The Brain Tumour Charity.
2 years ago, Dave was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. On Sunday, he runs a marathon.
I have had the pleasure of being able to help Dave with his training, giving him some running advice, helping him out with strength training and any niggles that cropped up along the way. After an ankle sprain, it was also about reassuring him that it was okay and he was still able to do the marathon.
He has embraced training so well and has worked so hard to get to the start line on Sunday.
He is an inspiration and it has been an honour helping him on this journey.
Enjoy your victory lap on Sunday! 🏃‍♂️

To all my other clients running on Sunday, enjoy the race and soak up the atmosphere.
Don’t go out too hard, don’t do anything new on race day and remember to fuel.
You will all smash it, I know.

I know personally the physical effects running a marathon has on your body.
I frequently get sports massages to help prevent injury and to keep me performing at my best in training.
With London being this coming Sunday, and many others happening, I am offering £5 off pre or post race treatments.
So in the week before your race, or the week after, you can get an hour massage in your own home for £35!

🎉Move Again Massage is 1🎉
In March 2022, I qualified as a Soft Tissue Therapist and started Move Again Massage.

Over the past year I’ve been on several courses, helped at sporting events and been the therapist for multiple sports teams.
I’ve treated numerous clients, helping people recover from injuries such as osteitis p***s, plantar fasciitis and desk related shoulder pain as well as Maintenon massages.
I have gained so much experience and confidence this year and enjoy helping all my amazing clients.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last year.
Here’s to many more 🍻

Injury recovery 🩼
Bit of a personal one today

It has now been 10 days since I sustained a stress fracture in the 3rd metatarsal in my left foot during a run.
Over the 1st week of the injury, it was very important I rested as much as possible to help start heeling. But I did do some upper body and core workouts to help keep me sane(ish) and get some endorphins.

As you may notice from the photos, my left leg had already lost muscle mass in my left leg. Trying to keep this to a minimum is important so when i get back to running in 8 weeks or so (😭😭😭) I reduce the risk of getting injuries due to my left leg being weaker.

It is still important I rest the foot but I have started doing some non weight bearing leg exercises to try and reduce the amount of muscle wastage.
It is difficult to work the calf when I can’t put weight through my foot so I am focusing on quadriceps, hamstring and glute work. I have been doing banded, active and isometric exercises.

3-4 weeks after injury I will start swimming to do some non weight bearing cardio to try and keep some fitness for my comeback. I will start cycling when I can increase the weight I put through my foot which will be from about 4 weeks.

I am excited to work on my own rehab and look forward to sharing my journey back to running.

Unfortunately, us therapists get injured too.
As some of you my know, I am a runner, and in my training for Rome marathon I have developed a stress fracture to a metatarsal in my left foot. This happened on Sunday (19th) and so is very painful at the moment and it is essential I rest it as much as possible in the next few weeks to help it heal. This also means I cannot drive as it is too painful, which as a mobile therapist, is not ideal at all.
Luckily I have found a way to be able to continue to treat in these early days.
So for at least the next 2 weeks I will solely be operating from the Uckfield Chiropractic Clinic. I apologise for the inconvenience caused, I will get back to mobile appointments as soon as I can and appreciate your understanding at this difficult time.
Appointment times available are 9am, 1030, 12, 2, 330 and 5pm.
Current dates I will be there are Monday 27th February, Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 1st March, Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th.
I will reassess the situation on the 8th March.

Let’s talk about DOMS!

DOMS, or delayed onset muscle soreness is that sore achy feeling in your muscles usually a day or 2 after a workout. The muscles range of motion and performance is negatively affected during this time.

Massage has been shown to help decrease the soreness of muscles in DOMS.
Results are best when massage is applied as soon as possible after activity with studies conducted within 2 hours of activity. However from personal experience, benefits are still felt 1 to 2 days post activity.

You could have started something new in January and experience some DOMS when you increase weights or reps. You may be preparing for a spring marathon and get DOMS the day after a long run.
Why not treat yourself to a sports massage to help alleviate those DOMS so you can get back to feeling yourself sooner!
