Pomeranians might be tiny, but their coat is one of the easiest to damage if you don’t know what you’re doing. That fluff isn’t just cute, it’s a delicate double coat and once it’s gone wrong, it might never come back the same.
Here’s what most people don’t realise:
• Shaving a Pom can permanently damage the coat
• Sometimes the fur grows back patchy, dull or doesn’t grow back properly at all
• The texture can completely change and lose that soft teddy bear finish
• It can trigger alopecia (hair loss) in some dogs
• Regrowth can take months or even years
And the scary part is how easy it is to go too short:
• Even slightly too short can mess up the coat cycle
• Once the topcoat is damaged, the undercoat takes over
• Saying “just a bit shorter” can lead to long-term damage
• It might look fine at first, then grow back uneven
What you actually want instead:
• Regular brushing to keep the coat open and healthy
• Proper deshedding, not shaving
• Grooming every 4-6 weeks to maintain the coat
• A groomer who understands double coats properly
This coat needs protecting, not just styling 😌
