The Youth Fairy Burgess Hill A modern, solution-focused approach to positive change for children, teens and young adults. I hold an Enhanced DBS and am fully insured.

I'm Lisa, therapist at The Youth Fairy, a team of Solution Focused therapists dedicated to improving the emotional well-being and mental health of children and teenagers suffering from anxiety, stress, anger, emotional regulation and low confidence. I offer a 1 hour consultation (free) face to face or online, to discuss your child's situation and how I can help them regain more emotional control and see them feeling happier, calmer and much more confident in a relatively short amount of time. As well as helping young people make these changes, I’m passionate that educating them on their mental health is such an important and essential part of the change process. In the consultation I’ll explain to you and your child how the brain works to create their specific problems and associated feelings, behaviours or symptoms. This understanding can be really motivational to children as they realise there is hope, see more clearly what we can do about it and how to promote more mentally healthy behaviours in the future. This knowledge is super helpful for you as a parent too - it allows for greater understanding, creates a common language to talk more easily with your child about their well-being and gives you specific ideas of how you can best support the process (and beyond). And because this modern, well researched approach is solution focused, it means your child won’t have to focus on the past in great detail or revisit traumatic events to make really positive change. You’ll also get my relaxation audio downloads to help improve any sleep problems they are having and support the process.

I just had to reshare this . Mia’s fear of dogs 🐾 was really affecting this family’s enjoyment of days out and visiting friends and family. I'm so proud of the progress Mia made and the impact it had on her whole family 🥰🙌

Full testimonial below 👇👇👇
“Lisa was brilliant with my daughter, she felt immediately at ease and looked forward to every session. We have seen a marked improvement in her reaction to dogs and other animals. She is calmer and can make a rational decision in situations that would have previously caused her considerable fear.”

✨ On the Blog ✨ This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Separation Anxiety.
Whilst Separation Anxiety is something that is an expected part of development in babies (often experienced around 8 to 12 months) it is usually addressed by the age of 2 years.

Sometimes, however, this anxiety can persist long into childhood and can hugely limit a child’s life and their ability to develop independence and confidence without the presence of a parent or caregiver.

Separation anxiety disorder is a strong and persistent fear of being away from parents or loved ones.
Signs of Separation Anxiety may include:

😔 Clinging to a parent when being left (this can be leaving the room, leaving at school or at bedtime)
😔 Extreme, continued, and severe crying on being left
😔 Nightmares around separation
😔 Not wanting to sleep alone
😔 Refusal to do clubs, activities, parties etc which require separation
😔 Difficulties interacting with other children
😔 Headaches or vomiting
😔 Refusing to attend school
😔 Tantrums and emotional or violent outbursts associated with separation.

Separation Anxiety may be affected by a parent experiencing anxiety or by stressful events such as:

👉 Moving home
👉 Moving schools
👉 Divorce
👉 Death of a family member

Remember, this fear is very real for your child. They are fearful that you will not return or that something will happen to you or to them if you are not together.
Our blog this week covers tips on supporting your child through this and helping them find ways to cope better including:

✨ Creating opportunities for them to practice
✨ Sticking to a routine as much as possible
✨ Being positive
✨ Providing connection
✨ Validating their feelings

Hello 👋👋👋 I wanted to pop on to say Hi and to reintroduce myself to my new followers ...

🧚 I'm Lisa, therapist at The Youth Fairy Burgess Hill and I specialise in working with children and teenagers struggling with the effects of anxiety, stress, anger, low mood and low confidence.

I use Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy to help children and young people:

🧚 Re-focus on the positive aspects of their lives
🧚 Recognise strengths and capabilities
🧚 Improve quality of sleep
🧚 Engage more in positive activities/interactions
🧚 Feel more in control of their emotions and lives

I was recently asked if I were to win the lottery what would I do differently – truly, I would continue to do this job that I love. I have the opportunity on a day-to-day basis to work with amazing young people, many who are yet to see just how amazing they are.

Areas I work with include:

🧡 Anxiety
🧡 Stress
🧡 Low mood
🧡 Anger management
🧡 Social anxiety
🧡 EBSA
🧡 Low self-esteem
🧡 Low confidence
🧡 Sports/exam performance
🧡 Fears and phobias
🧡 Exam stress and anxiety
🧡 Transition to secondary school/college
🧡 Trauma
🧡 Self-harm
🧡 Sleep problems

🧚‍♀️ About Me 🧚‍♀️

⭐️ In addition to being a therpaist, I have spent almost 30 years (I started young!) working with children, teens and young adults in both volunteer and professional roles. This has included providing supportive, transitional homes for teenagers who were not yet ready to live independently, working as a Learning Mentor in Primary Schools and working as a Secondary School Drama Teacher.

⭐️ Each of these roles provided me with the opportunity to engage in a positive and supportive way and help these young people to understand that they could be more: more confident, more creative, more focused – and that they could achieve more.

🧚‍♂️ Next Steps 🧚‍♂️

🧚 I offer a free, 1 hour, Initial Consultation to meet your child, find out more and discuss best hopes.

🧚 During this, I’ll also help you and your child understand how their brain works to create their particular struggles (in an age-appropriate way).

🧚 This understanding can be really helpful to children (and parents) as they can see more clearly what we can do about it and how to develop more positive, healthy habits for life.

You can discover more about me here on the website and get in touch if you'd like to have a call or book an Initial Consultation. 👇👇👇

I spend lots of my time with young people talking abut doing how they can spend more time doing the things they love and the things that give them joy.

It’s our three Ps - 🫛 the positive things: positive interactions, positive actions and positive thoughts.

For many of the young people it’s football, or cricket, or spending time with friends.

This week I’m back doing one of my favourite things… this is Olivia’s music, but we are both delighted to have our very talented teacher back from maternity leave and being back to our vocal and piano lessons. 🎵 🎶

Fabulous from Mum of Evan and Louise. So lovely to see the positive change in both of them as they grew in confidence and achieved their goals 🤩🙌🥰

Full testimonial below 👇👇👇
"Our 15 year old daughter was struggling with lack of motivation, confidence and anxiety with regard to her upcoming GCSE exams. She also had some friendship issues and was generally out of sorts with her sense of self. Social media has become such a big part of our children’s lives but unfortunately at times it can impact and influence them negatively and this was also something we felt was affecting our daughter. We have always communicated well but it was clear that Louise needed someone other than her parents to talk to, confide in and work through these issues with. From the first week of talking to Lisa we could see positive changes begin to occur. Louise’s understanding of how the brain works and the neuroscience behind it really helped her start to rationalise some of her behaviours and thought processes.
Each week she was eager to share with us what she had learned and was feeling happier, more confident and much less anxious. She had 12 sessions in all and can access Lisa’s help going forward if she feels she needs it.

We are so happy to see our girl feeling more confident, motivated and almost looking forward to her exams. She is so much more positive generally and has dealt with issues, that would normally have had her floundering, with ease and maturity.

We would definitely recommend Lisa.

She has been great with Evan and Louise in understanding what they needed to understand about themselves to enable them to change their mindsets towards their barriers and goals. She has a very soothing, calming presence which helped them feel comfortable so they could engage fully with the sessions.

They even carry on the relaxation audios on their own (which is huge for teenagers) so shows how much they believe in the process and the positive impact of it! Thanks Lisa!"
