August Recruitment closes in 2 days
if you wish to start your Volunteer Community First Responder journey why not get it in now....
Don't think your ready, let me guide you on time scale....
Recruitment closes on a working day close to the end of the month.
My line manager and I then have to short list all applications.
You are then invited to an induction evening approx, mid month. (generally a wed night)
If successful at induction and interview, you then go to the world of DBS, this can take between 6 weeks and 6 months.
once DBS is Clear and returned, You are then invited to a training course, these courses are 4 days and over a weekend. In the North these are 1 day on the first weekend, both days on the next weekend and one day on the following weekend.
Once you have passed the course you are introduced to your local Scheme and start to support patient care within your community and beyond, due to modern technology, you are no longer restricted to your local area, so can log on call whilst moving around Yorkshire and continuing with your life.
Are you 18 years old?
do you have access to a vehicle?
Can you commit to a 4 day weekend course?
can you give a minimum of 20 hours of on call time a month? (flexible)
Do you want to make a difference within your community and be a part of an amazing organisation?

Happy 9th birthday to the Northallerton Community First Responder Team. They are all volunteers who are trained by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to attend medical emergencies, often life threatening, within the local local community until an ambulance arrives. The volunteers can make a difference to people's lives in a matter of minutes. Each responder is required to provide a minimum of 20 hours a month however, their eight strong team collectively goes above and beyond regularly giving 400-500 hours per month within the Northallerton and surrounding area. Could you give 5 hours a week? Interested? Join the team at www.communityresponders.yas.nhs.uk

Our volunteers may be the first responders you see when you ring for an ambulance when you recognise someone has had a stroke.

They are there to reassure you and gather information for the clinicians prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

They will take the patients story and carry out a series of observations, such as heart rate and blood pressure. These can then be shared with our remote clinicians in our control centre for further early advice on your care.

June was good to us with our second largest recruitment in North Yorkshire and The Yorkshire Dales Area, in the past 3 years.

Due to summer holidays I have opened a quick link, its only opened until 17th July, to allow time for shortlisting and Inductions before people start to disappear for the holidays.

After that you will have to wait until Sept.

So you have a realistic understanding how our volunteer recruitment works in the North.

TRAC link opens (generally North Yorks, it is the 1st working day of the month until the last, each month).

If you apply on the 1st, you will not hear anything until after TRAC closes.

Once TRAC closes, myself and Neil have 5 days to complete shortlisting.

If successful, you are invited to an induction / interview evening. (generally, in the North This is a Wed Evening 1800-2000, 10 days after shortlisting)
If you Can Not make the induction evening, please don’t withdraw, please email recruitment and request another date.

If successful on Induction / Interview evening, you enter the world of DBS and NHS checks. (this takes as long as it takes).

Once your DBS is back, you are offered a course date, which is 4 days over 3 weekends.

On completion of this course and some E Learning modules you meet your team and start saving lives within your community.
We request that you give a min of 20 hours a month and 1 scheme meeting bimonthly.

Sound good??

I am very honored to work with some amazing volunteers within North, North Yorkshire and The Yorkshire Dales, supporting Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust Volunteer Community First Responder Scheme.

My area covers Leeming, out to northallerton, over to Great Ayton, over to Langthwaite, Gunnerside, across to Hawes and back to Leeming and everything in between, approximately 520 square miles.

These volunteers offer 20 hours a month, so as an area with present volunteer numbers we should give YAS 1040 volunteer hours a month. As you can see (pic attached) these hero's gave YAS 2,387 volunteer hours last month and a massive 15,261 hours this year so fare.

Could you spare 20 hours a month?

Would you like to be trained as a volunteer responder for YAS?

Take a look at our website or follow the QR code to register your interest.
