This mental health awareness week focuses on loneliness. This is when we feel a lack of connection, an isolation or lack of intimacy.
Often those who are surrounded by people, friends, colleagues or even loved ones, can still feel lonely.
It’s been comforting reading some of the statistics provided by the this week to understand that the feeling of loneliness is more common that we realise.
I often think this is even more common today because of social media. We’re making less of the 1:1 connections we used to, whether it’s face to face or on the phone. There are lots of triggers on social media too - whether it’s conversations, photos or videos that can make us think everyone else is having the time of their lives.
You might feel lonely because those around you don’t share your beliefs or outlook on life and this may cause feelings of being trapped and isolated further.
If you are feeling lonely right now, you are not alone.
Your feelings matter and there are others who feel the same.
The provides some tips to help with loneliness and we’ve added a few too:
🌱 Share your feelings with someone
🌱 Spend time with pets and animals
🌱 Do something that makes you feel good
🌱 Keep your mind and body active
🌱 Find those that share your interests, whether that’s through a local group or online
🌱 Notice the little connections you have with others throughout the day
🌱 Try some mindfulness exercises and allow yourself to invest time in you
Let us know if you have any tips for times when you’ve felt lonely that you would share with others.
