Although the exact origins may be disputed, evidence relating to the early origins of cupping was found in Egypt over 5000 years ago. In later times, cupping methods were used in conventional hospitals until as late as the 19th century: when the introduction and use of drugs became the dominant system of treatment. Today, cupping techniques are used all over the world and the benefits of this ancient therapy are both far reaching and gaining in popularity.
Dry cupping is an extremely safe way to enhance the body's own self-healing capacity to fight illness. When applied correctly by a professionally trained practitioner, no negative side effects are experienced. On the contrary, this practice is well known for creating feelings of relaxation and relief from the everyday stresses of life.
How does it work?
Vacuum cups are placed over the skin to create a distinctive localised circular bruise. As the suction is created, impurities inside the inner layer of tissue and muscle are pulled outwards. These circular marks indicate the level of stagnation or toxic accumulation in the body.
There are many colour indicators which can give a practitioner a deeper insight into the type of stagnation each individual may be experiencing. For example, the deeper the redness - the more extreme the stagnation. Exposure to toxic materials may also cause consistent dark bruising and areas of trauma or injury may require multiple cupping treatments to remove all stagnation.
All cupping marks stimulate fresh blood to the area and allow the lymphatic system to remove excess toxins from the tissue. Healing is thereby accelerated. Toxins are now carried away by the blood and lymphatic system in readiness to be excreted by the kidneys, liver, intestines and lungs.
Dry cupping can be used in isolation or in conjunction with naturopathic techniques to support the body’s detoxification system. It is used to relieve:
painful and stiff muscles, reduced joint movement, back pain, anxiety, fatigue, disturbed sleep, digestive issues and as an agent to weight loss.
Lessening such a burden on ourselves would certainly help make each day much lighter and enable us to enjoy far more of the beautiful lives we have. At Shaffa Health, it’d be our pleasure to help guide you closer towards true wellbeing that we can all carry into our lives moving forward.
