Find joy in the little things xx

Today in my video I mentioned Weary Willie. Today is Weary Willie Day and for those of you who don't know (and why would you) Weary Willie was the stage persona of clown and entertainer Emmett Kelly. Emmett was inspired to try and help people cope with the great hardships being experienced as a result of the Great Depression of the 1930s, and his sad-faced, hobo clown resonated with people with his mix of pathos and humour. Weary Willie wanted people to see that even in difficult times it's possible to find some joy.

Life is rarely simple and easy, but if we reflect on how humour can help us cope we can often also find some joy. It won't solve our problems, and I would never make light of the tragedies people around the world are going through, but sometimes a glimpse of humour and joy can make even the difficult times just a little bit more bearable.

Resistance training can help improve our mood and our sleep as well as increasing our sense of achievement and reducing stress. Seems like a no-brainer to me!

Resistance training (aka weight training) increases our muscle mass and bone density and helps prevent a decline in strength as we age.

It's also great for helping to reduce body fat and decrease the risk of heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

It does not make us look pumped up and 'hench', but it will help to make us look toned and fit.

Cardio exercise - love it or hate it - is at the heart of everything you do.

Whether it's going to the shop, standing outside school waiting for the kids or socialising with friends and work colleagues, the art of listening and understanding and then speaking a foreign language is difficult, really difficult.

The Everyday English Conversation Cafe is designed to help you build up your vocabulary and your confidence. Working together as a group we will explore themed sessions based around real-world everyday situations, using fun, interactive activities and language coaching.
