Today we had pleasure of welcoming the Lancashire West Trefoil Guild to Blackpool Victoria Hospital BTH Swan End of Life Bereavement Service were delighted they could host their public get together for Worldwide Knit in Public Day.

The day encourages knitters to come together, knit in public, and share their passion for the craft.

Trefoil Guild is a Guiding group for grown ups. Sue Hopcroft, Guide commented: "We have fun adventures together. We decided to take part in Knit in Public day and wanted to come to the hospital as many of us were knitting hearts and bears at home and it gives us a good excuse to get together and enjoy a knit and a natter while providing service to our community as per our Promise. "

Jackie Brunton, Lead Nurse End of Life and Bereavement Care, said: "We are delighted to host this event and thank all of our amazing community who generously give time and their gifts of hearts and bears for our bereaved loved ones, they really make a difference.

Thank you to our Marks and Spencer who kindly donated cakes and biscuit treats it was a lovely touch

Happy 40th Birthday Trinity Hospice & Palliative Care Services we are so fortunate to have such incredible services across our community x

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! 🎈4️⃣0️⃣

40 years ago today, we accepted our very first patient after years of tireless fundraising, building and planning to make an incredible difference across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

We are here because of the amazing people in our community who support us – from the 1980s to today, Trinity exists because of you!

We have much to celebrate as we look back over the last four decades, and we do so with thanks to our community, colleagues, volunteers and everyone who has been part of our journey in the past and continues to support our future.

Thank you 🫶

Sue shares the importance of providing people and those important to them the opportunity to discuss their wishes and support them in decisions about future care “
“Mum didn’t get the chance to talk about what she wanted when she’d gone. It meant me and my family – my dad, brother and sister – had to make decisions in the hope it’s what she would have wanted. We struggled through, but constantly asked ourselves ‘is this what mum would want?’ It was hard. It has made us realise the importance of sharing your wishes, so your family isn’t left making decisions they’re not sure of. Having a Will is so important."

This May Trinity Hospice & Palliative Care Services is giving you the chance to make or amend your Will free of charge. To find out more or to book your appointment visit https://www.trinityhospice.co.uk/support-us/gift-in-will/will-month/"

Today marks the start of Dying Matters Awareness Week, shining a spotlight on the importance of open and honest discussions about end of life experiences.

This theme is The Culture of Dying Matters, which delves into the diverse ways communities across the UK discuss, navigate, and commemorate death and dying, while emphasising the shared emotions that connect us all in grief and loss.

We’re supporting a research study at the University of Bristol which aims to explore how healthcare staff talk about uncertainty when a baby or loved one is seriously ill.

If you are a bereaved parent whose baby was cared for in a neonatal intensive care unit, please consider joining the parent involvement group to help improve how clinicians communicate about uncertainty in serious illness.

If you would like more information or would like to join, please email Dr Chloe Shaw at chloe.shaw@bristol.ac.uk
