For many older men working in industry or large factories, booking an abdominal aortic aneurysm screening might not be high on the priority list.

An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from the heart down through the abdomen. But did you know that AAA is a potentially life-threatening condition that often shows no symptoms?

That’s why our AAA screening team has been visiting large employers like Numatic in Chard and Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater – to raise awareness and make it easier for men to access this vital service.

Every man in the UK is invited for ultrasound screening when they turn 65 – but if you’ve missed your letter or never got around to booking, it’s not too late.

We’re incredibly proud of the amazing work our screening team does every day – going the extra mile to protect lives across Somerset.

If you’re 65 or over and haven’t had your scan, please get in touch by emailing sandaaa@SomersetFT.nhs.uk, or calling 01823 344567.

🧠💬 Join a PCN That’s Redefining Mental Health Support 💬🧠
We’re hiring a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner to join our innovative and close-knit team within the West Somerset Primary Care Network (PCN).

📍 Based at Williton Hospital and local GP surgeries, this is your chance to work right at the heart of the community — shaping mental health care alongside GPs, pharmacists, care coordinators, Village Agents, and social prescribers.

🔹 Help individuals facing complex mental health challenges
🔹 Lead assessments and care planning rooted in local relationships
🔹 Bring mental health expertise into everyday neighbourhood care
🔹 Work in a supportive, collaborative, and well-connected PCN team

This role isn’t about sitting on the sidelines — it’s about real impact through strong local partnerships, shared decision-making, and breaking down silos between services.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected. Minehead Eye are available to support our young people.

Due to the awful events of yesterday regarding the bus, the Minehead Eye Well Being and Youth Work Team will be there to offer any help we can at this extremely difficult and challenging time.

We've opened our doors at the centre for the day for any young person or families that feel they would welcome some support, a chance to process things, or get further contacts or advice if they'd wish for it. On our request, Mind in somerset have added a direct link and contact if you wish to contact them https://Mindline.org.uk

As a community we all just want to help and support where best we can. Our heart goes out to everyone at the school.
