What can you say NO to this week so you can say YES to something better?

No to extra work = Yes to more downtime / social time

No to plans that you really don't want to do = Yes to doing what you want (even if that's nothing but resting).

No to comparing yourself to others = Yes to embracing all that you are

No to being sat at your desk all day = Yes to 5 mins of mindful movement / fresh air that will shift your mood.

No to strict diet rules = Yes to enjoying your favourite foods

No to scrolling on your phone in bed = Yes to better sleep

No to hitting snooze = Yes to precious extra time for yourself in the morning

No to things that aren't important = Yes to the things that are important.

Take a moment to notice if what you are doing is really what you want to do and if it isn't, maybe you can make a different choice.

You are your most important project...

Step gently into September and embrace the month and the season.

You don't have to have everything figured out this month, no matter what anyone tells you.

You don't have to set arbitrary goals for your health and wellbeing such as "new month, new you" or "by the end of the year"

Small, enjoyable, consistent action over a long period of time will bring you joy and learning and growth.

Learn to embrace the process and enjoy every moment. It's where the good stuff happens.

There's no rush, you'll be working on yourself forever.

I want to climb a mountain...

This was my reply to "what do you want to do for your birthday this year?"

So we did, yesterday, on my 42nd Birthday! 🥳

I had this urge that I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, I wanted a physical challenge and I wanted to stand on top of a mountain looking out for as far as I can see.

I always feel quite reflective on my birthdays. Thinking about what's happened over the last 12 months and also thinking about what I want to achieve in the next 12 too.

I realised when I was up there at the top of Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Moors, that what I was craving was the feeling of a different perspective.

On top of the mountain, you feel both insignificant and significant all at the same time and it's blooming wonderful for your mind. It really does ground you and put things in perspective. I would highly recommend 👌🏼

We saw waterfalls, had lunch whilst we dangled our legs over Gaping Gill (100 metre deep cave) scrambled hands and knees over bits of rocks, saw lots of sheep, said hello to every person we walked past (I love that we does this on walks, we should introduce it to cities too 😉), enjoyed an excellent picnic 🤌🏼🤩 and took in the rolling moors, that just went on for miles.

The sun was shining and there was a lovely summer breeze. We walked for miles and I loved every minute of it. I even enjoyed having tired legs.

I have got the bug now and I am already planning our next adventure 🥾⛰️

Also, here's a reminder to get out of your comfort zone every now and then, do something physical, do something challenging and see how it impacts your mood and your perspective and your sense of wellbeing.

What a gorgeous evening with my beautiful yoga community for our 4th Yogi Social 🎉

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Thank you to all the team there for looking after us 👌🏼

Lovely yogis, delicious food, great company and lots of laughs. A perfect evening 🥰

When I set up my yoga business 3 years ago I knew that I wanted it to be different from the usual yoga class.

Since starting on my self employed journey back in 2008, community has always been at the heart of each business I have built (did you know I used to own a cafe and catering business and set up a Yoga Directory ? That's a story for another day 😉) and Louise Yoga is no exception 🤩

I wanted to create a place where everyone is welcome, where you feel seen and valued and are part of something bigger.

Community is one of the pillars of my teachings in my Yoga for Wellbeing classes. When people come together with a shared interest in wellbeing and personal growth, amazing things happen 🌟

Yes your yoga practice is an individual beautiful journey but practiced as a collective, as part of a community (a Kula) it makes it even more special and amplifies all the wonderful benefits, which then ripple out into the world.

Thank you Yogis for a lovely evening, it was wonderful to see you and spend time together "off our mats" ❤️

Happy Friday 🎉 I hope you are all well and having a great week so far.

I wanted to share this photo of these beautiful flowers one of my students gave me last night.

What a lovely surprise 🤩 It was a gift to say thank you and to celebrate her 2 year anniversary of practicing yoga with me. I was absolutely blown away ❤️

When you run your own business (even a yoga business 😉) you can come across challenges and difficult days, like anyone else, but days like yesterday, when you hear about the impact your classes and teachings have on a students life, reminds me why I do what I do and why I love it so much.

This student has been on such a beautiful journey and it really is my honour and privilege to share that journey with you.

🌟 3 Ways to Practice Yoga off the Mat...

Quite often we think of yoga as 60 mins on our mat to move and breathe and stretch, which is of course is true. However, the real practice of yoga is when we take the yogic wisdom, the ancient yogic teachings and apply them to our every day lives. We don't have to wait until our next yoga class to feel good.

Yes we can feel amazing benefits of moving and stretching the body and resting the mind, but when we allow our practice to ripple off our mat into our daily lives, this is where so much magic happens 🌟

Here are 3 ways to do that:

1. Set an Intention for your day. This called a Sankalpa in Yoga. This can set the tone for your whole day and can give you a little boost when needed "I am.... "

2. Be Mindful about the small and big things. Enjoy being in each moment, notice what's around you, use all your senses.

3. Practice Gratitude everyday. This can take us from a 'lack of' to a feeling abundance in an instant.

Last month my sister Gemma Stow - No More Hiding and I hosted our 3rd Yoga and Coaching event, this one was a very special event for International Women's Day 🤩

We had an amazing day, with equally amazing women. It was a fantastic day of inspirational yoga and transformational coaching. We always feel so honoured to share these special days with these wonderful women and to witness huge shifts and transformations as they move forward towards creating a future that inspires and energises them 🌟

We were delighted that our local Sweaty Betty York Store store sponsored our gift bags for our guests. Thank you so much to Sara and the team at SB York, it was such a pleasure to work with you. We always love wearing our SB leggings for our events too, they are perfect for a full day of yoga, meditation and coaching 🧘‍♀️❤️

As always it is so wonderful to spend the day in the beautiful Grays Court Hotel & The Bow Room Restaurant Thank you to all the team there too for making it an extra special day. I think we had all 4 seasons in one day, such a beautiful setting to experience the beauty of York in the snow and sunshine.

What a day 🤩

It's been such a pleasure to welcome more and more yogis into our community. A welcoming, supportive space where you can come and take time for yourself each week to top up your cup of wellbeing, so that you can live healthier and happier lives off the mat.

Are you feeling the festive frazzle yet?

Are you like me? You love Christmas, you make plans for your plans, you have lists for presents, lists for food, lists for drinks, a schedule packed full of family and friend get togethers and squeezing in as much as possible over the holidays 🤪 Does that sound familiar?

It is such a fun and exciting time of year, but quite often when it gets to the big day we can feel a little overwhelmed and perhaps burnt out. When we finally stop to enjoy ourselves, we can feel all the weeks of stress and non-stop planning catch up with us.

It is important to find pockets of time for yourself and for your wellbeing to pause and take a breath. Just a little time away from the planning and the to-do lists, so that you can avoid burnout and really enjoy your Christmas break with your family 🫶🥰

This is why I have decided to run one last workshop of the year. Come and join me and take a couple of hours out to allow yourself some precious time to rest and reset before the festivities to begin 🌟

This restorative workshop is on Friday 16th December, £25 per person. 6:15pm – 8:15pm

Held in the beautiful John Jeffery Pavilion, Wigginton, York

🌟We’ll move slowly and restoratively, allowing mind and body to rest deeply

🌟Followed by a closing circle with Yoga Nidra (a beautiful yogic sleep meditation) and relaxation by fairy light

🌟Ending with a cup of festive tea and a mince pie (or chocolate if you're not a mince pie fan)

By the end of the workshop you’ll feel calm and soothed in body and mind, ready to take on the festivities and you'll look forward to welcoming in the new year with optimism and a renewed energy 🎉

In classes this week we contemplated creating space 🌟

Space in our bodies to feel open, stronger and more flexible. But also allowing our yoga practice to help us to create space in our mind too. This may show up as feeling a sense of peace, of softness, of steadiness in our thoughts. 🥰

From this space we create in our mind, there is room for growth, for ideas, for creativity, for self development.🧠❤️

From this space, we can then transform the relationship we have with ourselves and others. As we commit to our yoga practice over time we can begin to peel back the layers to reveal our true self and begin to move through life with a sense of intention and purpose. 🫶🏼

Yoga isn't just a weekly workout. It transforms you. It becomes a part of who you are and how you show up in the world 🌍

I have seen and felt this in myself and I see it everyday in my wonderful students. ❤️
