Is it menopause or ageing?

I thought it might be helpful to understand how menopause and aging impact our health and well-being.

Bear in mind that there isn’t enough room on a Venn diagram to include all the symptoms of the menopause. So I’ve only included the more well known ones.
Notice how some symptoms - at the center of the diagram- may be a result of both.

Natural menopause and ageing happen at the same time.

Remember that menopause is driven by a decline in oestrogen and progesterone and many of the symptoms can feel intense or unexpected.

Aging, on the other hand, is a gradual process that impacts everyone overtime regardless of gender or hormonal status.

Aging is natural and continuous whereas menopause is a specific life stage.

Understanding the difference helps us make targeted choices: yoga, nutrition, exercise, supplements, HRT (or not) and lifestyle strategies that support both hormonal balance and graceful ageing❤️

Sleep is problematic.

Some nights we sleep really well and other nights it’s awful.

And it doesn’t matter what stage of life you’re going through, sleep is a constant source of focus:
🤰🏼In pregnancy: The growing baby makes sleeping in any position uncomfortable
👶New mum: crying babies disrupt sleep
👩🏻‍💼Menopause: hormonal shifts create erratic sleep patterns

And so many factors impact our sleep: from what you ate to how much you exercise during the day to what you watched on TV before going to bed and so much more!

Too many in fact to list here.
So scroll for a few suggestions that can help you get a better night’s sleep.

Is it the Winter Blues?

Or seasonal affective disorder (S.A.D.)?

Or being stuck indoors for long periods of time due to cold weather?

Or just the time of year when the days are short, the weather is cold, and we go for days without seeing the sun?

Whichever it is for you, feeling low in mood and energy are common symptoms at this time of year.

The cold, short, dark days of winter affect us physically and emotionally making us feel low in mood and in energy.

Swipe for suggestions that can help.

I suggest talking to your GP whatever your symptoms, especially if you suffer from more severe symptoms of SAD such depression which is an inability to cope with evervday life.

Please share this so others can feel less blue too💙
