Recently I’ve had conversations with a number of different people about the subject of growing older, and some of what’s been said left me feeling rather sad. Whilst I know we can’t turn back the clock (and wouldn’t necessarily want to do so), I firmly believe that our lives don’t inevitably have to shrink or decline as we age. We can continue to thrive.
Neuroscience backs me up on this too. We now know that mental and physical activity are neuroprotective and can promote the growth of new brain cells — even in later life.
We also know that a person’s belief about ageing can influence cognitive performance. Studies show that positive beliefs about ageing are associated with better memory, greater longevity, and higher resilience.

I scoured longevity research on wellbeing – and the deeper I dug, the more I recognized a profound underlying pattern
