Walks for Wellbeing Walks for Wellbeing is for women who are taking steps to improve their health and wellbeing Hi - here's a bit about who will be taking you on a guided walk.

The walks are led by me, Claire Wickham. I am qualified Hill and Moorland Walk Leader and first aider. I am based in South Lakeland with my family and cats. I became a Mum at the age of 42, my own Mum had a massive stroke a few days later. She lived for a further 7 years. I juggled bringing up a son, with helping her and my Dad. It was sometimes overwhelming. More recently, I have come out of the other side of the menopause. In all these stages of my life, I found that being outdoors, absorbing the natural world, really helped me. Just being able to switch off, and let nature talk to me, soothed my mind and helped me process things that life was throwing my way. It may not for everyone, but why not come and try it? I want my walks to help you relax, regain some balance and enable you to think 'Yeah, I've GOT this!'

I am a number!
This is what has been occupying me this year - a bit of training for this ...
Dartmoor in a Day, this Saturday. Aarrgghh!!!
I set myself a goal to do an Ultra marathon before I'm 60 in 2026! Looks like I'm going to manage it before I'm 59!!! As somehow, this year, I have managed to avoid injury and will be on the start line in Okehampton. Wish me luck!!

ARE YOU CARRYING THE LOAD?

❤️ The WILD HEART: Women's Wilderness Therapy Woodland Retreat is an incredibly special, carefully crafted weekend that could be just what you need.

💚 It's a place to find your tribe and experience the therapeutic and healing power of nature. A space to learn about yourself, to learn new skills and face new challenges, to build confidence and connections. A time to slow down, to reconnect, rewild and restore on a weekend off-grid in a magical Lake District woodland beside a lake.

Let’s talk honestly. So many women are carrying the load; raising a family, working to build a career or doing multiple jobs to pay the bills, caring for parents or dependants, always on the go, always on the look out for everyone else, struggling to find time to look out for yourself or simply to have space to breathe or work out what it is you want and need to live a life that is right for you. It can be exhausting.

If this resonates, then this Wilderness Therapy Woodland Retreat is calling to you.

🌳🌿✨ It's going to be a very special experience. Let the woodland wilderness work its magical alchemy on you.

Just 12 places available.

This walk at Buttermere went a bit pear-shaped, had to reroute and come up with a new plan. Some people don't cope too well with new plans, sometimes there are lots of questions about why, sometimes the new route has sections that can't be avoided, even though you'd like to (eg steep and gnarly) and sometimes even the leader thinks "When will this end!!"
But, we managed it, and this bunch of lovely ladies took it all in their stride. Hats off to them!! Total warriors!!

Spotted this gorgeous white flower on Reston Scar.
It's called Marsh grass of parnassus.
What a name!!!
It's the county flower of Cumberland, and forms part of the logo of the new Cumberland Council.
Isn't it beautiful......
It might be Autumn, but there's still some lovely stuff going on!!!!

Have you ever seen such a flat rainbow?!?!? Still beautiful!!Near Staveley, on a wander up Reston Scar.

The five curricks of Hardendale (plus one hooman!!)
Currick - a Cumbrian word for pile of stones, a cairn, thought to be a guide for travellers.
A quick google search suggests there may have been six at one point. Close to Junction 39 on M6.

Proposed route:
