I love this Hippocrates quote! It speaks to me and is so true of the way I work. My latest blog is all about one of my most favourite things: beach sauna combined with sea swimming. It is hard to adequately describe how I feel after sauna and sea bathing. It is exhilarating but also calming, and I come away from every visit so glad that I made time to go. The contrast therapy of heat and cold have known physiological effects that benefit mind and body. Here is a link in case you want to buy a sauna like mine!

My next Power over PD walking group is next week on Tuesday 6th May! How quickly the month has flown. As I may have mentioned, this walk really means a lot to me as my sister has PD, and so I hope this will help both her and my local community here in Sherborne. The MVP study shows that exercise and social connection both have power to greatly improve the outcomes for people with Parkinson’s Disease. Please do come and join us at Pageant gardens, near Sainsbury’s next Tuesday 6th May.

Did you know that that the fat and fibre content of flaxseeds radically alter the glycaemic load of porridge? If a porridge breakfast typically has you hunting around for a snack mid-morning, try adding some ground flaxseeds and you may find it a bit more sustaining! Let me know how you get on!

Do you suffer from high blood pressure? Have you read my latest blog in the Sherborne Times yet? It talks about a study in 2022 where people suffering from high blood pressure were divided into three groups: one taking 10g ground flaxseed daily, another taking 30g ground flaxseed daily and a third group taking a placebo.

By the end of the 12 week trial those on the high dose of Flaxseed saw a systolic blood pressure drop by an impressive, and statistically highly significant, 13 mmHg – an effect comparable to the use of blood pressure lowering medication. Diastolic blood pressure was also very positively affected and dropped from 86 mmHg by 5.6 mmHg. According to the same study, flaxseeds were also good at helping to normalise weight and
cholesterol levels.

Remember last week I was talking about appreciating the little things? Well one little thing I really appreciate is Flaxseed (also known as Linseed). In my latest blog in the Sherborne Times (link below) I write about a brilliant study in 2022 which discovered how Flaxseed can lead to improvements in blood pressure, weight and cholesterol, due to the anti-inflammatory properties in the seeds. This is really good news for people concerned about their blood pressure and cardiovascular health but also other chronic diseases known to be driven by inflammation. It’s Good Friday! Before you go into the holiday weekend, I wanted to give you something to think about. As human beings I believe we often like the idea of complicated answers to problems, but we can grow weary of them once we try to implement them for any length of time. There’s something about us that warms to the notion that anything worth achieving must be complicated and difficult to attain. Happily, not everything in life follows this model. In fact, a lot of my work involves reminding people about humble, simple things and the surprising ways that they are more powerful than we realise. So during this weekend, to help you relax, think about and be grateful for all the little things that make life good. While you’re concentrating on those, bigger things will happen 😉 Happy Easter!

Delighted to announce that I’m starting my Power Over PD walking groups this month! My next walks are 15th April (tomorrow) and then 6th May. This really means a lot to me as my sister has PD, and so I hope this will help both her and my local community here in Sherborne.
