One of the most powerful shifts I see in my clients happens when they discover their Unique Pain Code.

Not just because it helps them move differently — but because it helps them feel differently.

For many, there’s a quiet belief that their pain is somehow their fault — especially if they’ve ‘tried everything’ and still struggle.

But here’s the truth:
Pain isn’t a sign you’ve failed. And it’s not something to blame yourself for.

When you stop carrying that weight, something else becomes possible:
You start to retrain the patterns that are keeping you stuck.
You build confidence.
And movement freedom becomes real.

💬 Comment ‘Masterclass’ to understand your Unique Pain Code — and what might be driving your pain beneath the surface.

Back Awareness Week – Kris reflects on his journey of moving beyond pain and choosing a different path.

For Kris, addressing back pain wasn’t just about short-term relief — it was about long-term change. Like many, he recognised that real recovery starts when he stop chasing symptoms and begin understanding the body as a whole.

At The Healthy Movement Programme, we help people reconnect with their bodies, restore confidence in movement, and build true resilience — without relying on quick fixes.

💬 Comment ‘Success’ to learn how our approach helps people like Kris move away from pain — for good.

Last week Pablo Marinho @‌pablomarinho and I led a session exploring how dancers — and anyone who wants to move more freely — can protect their joints and restore healthy movements.

Here are 3 key insights we shared:
1️⃣ Pain isn’t always where it hurts — it’s often about hidden patterns in how you move.
2️⃣ Movement variability and adaptability are the true cornerstones of joint health.
3️⃣ Small, subtle shifts in movement can unlock surprising ease and freedom.
Your Unique Pain Code is the map of your hidden movement patterns and triggers.

Understanding it is the first step in restoring healthy movement — and with it, discovering more ease and freedom in how you move.

Choices, healthy movement and pain... what's the connection? 💭

Choices: They're the cornerstone of our daily existence... what to do next, what to eat, what to say.

Yet, some choices carry profound implications for our health and well-being.

Movement is crucial to health but for many it's challenging because of ongoing pain.

My passion is guiding people towards restoring their healthy movement so they regain the freedom to move more easily.

But healthy movement isn't just about mobility; it's about the freedom to make Choices in how we move.

It was even in the title of my PhD thesis The Health of Movement: Recognising Movement Choices in Individuals for Long-term Health. 🧬

Healthy movement allows us to adapt to life's challenges, from walking on uneven terrain, enduring long hours at work or reaching in an awkward spot and sitting in an 'uncomfortable' chair. 🪑 Not to mention the challenges of demanding work or sporting environments.

However, ongoing pain alters how we move, and disrupted our movement coordination and muscle patterning.

We lose choices.

By restoring these choices we can pave the way to wellness.

This approach, grounded in research, forms the core of my work. Restoring choices in how we move, think and feel is at the centre of The Healthy Movement Programme.

Ready to reclaim your health and transform your life? Let's explore this choice together.

But we often don’t realise it until we lose it!

Due to joint and muscle issues, many people lose their quality of life.

They struggle to do things they enjoy and support their wellbeing like meeting up with friends or going for a run. There are days when they have to crawl up and down the stairs because the pain is too much.

The toll of living with ongoing pain is exhausting. Planning days around what their body can handle and thought consumed with the fear of triggering pain.

Sometimes, it feels easier not to move at all.

But there is a different way to find moving with ease…

Hours-long hikes, going to the gym, organising meetups, and even purposefully taking on active jobs.

Enjoying movement and activities again. Saying yes to things without giving it a second thought.

Having the freedom to move and the freedom to live life to the fullest.

And for many, the most powerful part is restoring their hope and excitement about the future.

❓ What’s the first thing you want to do when you get on top of joint and muscle pain?

🔶 We help people find their Unique Pain Code and restore full, free, easy movement despite ongoing joint and muscle pain.

When people live with ongoing pain, they often stop moving in certain ways — either because it hurts or because they’re afraid it might hurt. Over time, this leads to changes in the brain’s representation of movement: the movement map becomes blurry or distorted.

Motor imagery can help restore this map. By mentally rehearsing healthy, pain-free movement, we begin to retrain the nervous system, rebuild confidence, and open up new possibilities for movement — even before the body physically moves.

In Practice, motor imagery might involve:

Visualising yourself walking with ease

Mentally rehearsing lifting your arm smoothly

Imagining yourself climbing stairs without effort or pain

It works best when guided intentionally — paired with breath, calm attention, and a sense of safety.

Key Benefits:

Supports neuroplasticity and motor learning

Reduces fear and protective movement patterns

Enhances movement confidence and coordination

Can be used even when physical movement is limited

Motor imagery is part of The Healthy Movement Programme — because your brain can help restore movement, even when your body can’t. Dancers and athletes use it too.

🎨 Creativity & Healing: Why Art Matters in My World of Movement

As a movement science specialist, I’ve spent over 30 years helping people move with ease once again. But there's another side to me that’s just as essential to how I work—and how I live.

I’m also an artist.
Painting, creating, and making sense of the world through colour and form—it’s not a hobby. It’s a way of processing, of finding flow, of reconnecting with myself. It’s movement, just expressed through a different medium.

And it’s powerful.

When we create—whether it’s a brushstroke, a shape, a dance, or a moment of stillness—we shift out of the analytical mind and into presence. Into possibility.
This is the same space where healthy movement lives.

Creativity, like movement, isn’t about getting it ‘right.’
It’s about exploring. Paying attention. Noticing the subtle. Allowing ourselves to be in the moment.

Pain pulls us inward. It restricts.
But creativity—just like the work I do with clients—opens us back out.

So yes, I love anatomy. I love neuroscience. I love the technical side of helping people retrain how they move.
But I also believe deeply in beauty. In soft lines. In colour. In flow. In intuition.
Art keeps me grounded in that.

And often, the people I work with discover the same: that in reconnecting with their body, they reconnect with their creative self.
And that’s where transformation begins.

I’m delighted to share that I’ll be collaborating with Pablo B. Marinho, a specialist in movement science with over 15 years of global teaching experience. Together, we’ll be exploring how dancers regain movement freedom after injury, why variability is the cornerstone of joint health, the simple strategies dancers use to keep their joints adaptable.

And of course we take all of this knowledge and experience into The healthy Movement Programme… finding ways for you to begin restoring your own freedom of movement.

Remember when your body just moved — without hesitation, without stiffness, without second-guessing?

For many people, that kind of movement feels like a distant memory.
Instead, they say:
❝ I can’t trust my body — it feels like I’m always one wrong move away from making it worse ❞
❝ It feels like my body is stuck in a loop ❞

Movement freedom isn’t just about strength or flexibility.
It’s about having options — to bend, twist, reach and step without fear.

Your body remembers how to move freely. It just needs help reconnecting with that freedom.

That’s what we focus on every day in The Healthy Movement Programme.

This is the missing piece to dialling down the pain for a lot of people.

Movement is key to healthy joints and muscles. But what if movement is too painful?

Looking at the nervous system and becoming aware of how it affects pain helps people make strides in their pain levels and, as a result, their movement capabilities.

As well as addressing why the joints and muscles are in pain, we take into account how the nervous system is managing the pain response.

Proof that change is possible 🎉

These are some of the final messages clients have sent me before they finished The Healthy Movement Programme.

They started exhausted, frustrated and some even sceptical of how this could help their joint and muscle pain when nothing else had.

They left the programme not just in less pain and able to move more easily but also feeling empowered.

They finally understood why they had been in so much pain and why movement had become so sore and stiff.

Importantly, they finally understood what they could do to reduce their pain levels, improve their movement levels and maintain an active lifestyle.

They’ve taken back control of their lives and are enjoying the freedom of being able to move comfortably and do activities again.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel of joint and muscle pain.

I explain what we do differently to break free from painful movement in this quick video. Comment ‘Move’ and we’ll send it to you.
