This week, I am joining the national conversation about the impact of alcohol on our working lives. Whether it’s the after-work drinks culture, stress-related drinking, or simply not realising how much we’re consuming — alcohol can affect our health, wellbeing, and productivity more than we think.

🔍 Did you know?
Around 10 million people in the UK drink in ways that could harm their health.

It can lead to a range of health issues such as weight gain, stroke, heart disease, liver and kidney damage and there are six cancers associated with excessive alcohol intake. It can lead to poorer sleep quality and greatly increased anxiety and it’s worth noting that women don’t process it as well as men and after the hormonal changes of the menopause, even less so. It can make us lose clarity, confidence and our zest for life.

💡 How to get involved:
Reflect on your own drinking habits —drinking can slowly creep up over time. Having a nightly glass of wine after a long busy day could mean you are exceeding the government recommended limits of 14 units per week.

🙋🏻‍♀️ How can Health Coching help?
If you work with a health coach we take a holistic look at what is going on in your life and see if we can help you to rebalance and refocus. By reframing and finding renewed focus it can help to discover new approaches to coping with those moments of stress.

Health Coaching - Focus on……Overweight

We know how easy it is for the weight to creep on.

Temptation surrounds us, as we live in a processed food environment with millions of pounds spent in marketing budgets by food corporations.

Our busy lifestyles where we are rushing around often means we forget to look after ourselves.

Health Coaching offers a chance to pause, reassess and reset.

We can work on what the barriers are to weigh loss and work on a strategy based on your goals.

With chronic health conditions of every kind on the rise and our health services under increasing pressure, it’s never been more important to start taking action to help ourselves and each other towards better health.

Our lifestyle and our habits and behaviours around what we eat, how we move, sleep, rest, manage stress and engage with our family, friends and community can all support, or undermine, our health.

The small things we do, day-in-day-out really do matter to our health and wellbeing. Making changes that nudge us toward better health can be easy with small, consistent steps which we can build up to the big, sustainable win: our better health!

A health coach can help you achieve your goals and provide support and accountability.

I wrote a blog recently about a passion of mine, namely art.

The link between art appreciation and mindfullness is being explored and understood.

Here is my take along with a look at 30 artists that shaped our lives.

I was recently asked to describe one of my mindful practices and after some thought, I realised that one of my greatest pleasures in life is strolling around an art gallery. Having travelled the world for the past 40 years, I have been fortunate enough to visit some of the great galleries off the wo...

This week I’m hoping to appear in a piece in the about the benefits of going alcohol-free in middle age. I have found ditching booze utterly liberating and I’m hoping to inspire others to give it a try.

Today is 2000 Days - WITHOUT A DROP OF ALCOHOL!!💪🏽🎈

That figure would have been mind-blowing to me, when I made the massive decision to stop drinking on 30th October 2017.

I found a supportive online community in One Year No Beer where there were people who had the same struggles as me. I was able to share my worries and this was hugely instrumental in my success. I had my doubts in the early days but got my head down and had one simple rule. Do not drink. Do not open the door by even the smallest crack.

I’ve stuck with that mantra for 5 years and 5 months and 23 days.

It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

It’s all about moving your body. Nothing complicated. Just make sure that everyday you do something to get your blood pumping around your body and don’t spend hours sitting down in one position.
