Since the launch of the NHS Jewish BRCA Programme in January 2024, over 32,000 people have registered for testing. This programme offers gene testing for individuals aged 18 and above, who have at least one Jewish grandparent.

These gene faults increase the risk for certain cancers. Cancer screening and prevention options are available to people with BRCA gene faults.

Today the NHS launches the ability for patients to be prescribed Weight Loss Injection on the NHS free of charge.

There is a strict criteria for this:
BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or greater and four or more of the following diagnosed health conditions:
• type 2 diabetes
• Hypertension
• Cardiovascular disease
• Obstructive sleep apnoea
• Dyslipidaemia

Within Sussex patients will only be able to access this if they meet the criteria. Those patients eligible will be contacted, once Sussex NHS has finalised its processes and support plans.

This will take a number of weeks.

In the meantime we will NOT take any requests or appointments for patients to receive NHS funded treatment for weight loss injections.
ELIGIBLE Patients MUST wait until they are contact by us to discuss their options.

We understand that some people may feel frustrated or disappointed if they are not eligible for medication-based treatments at this stage.

Living with obesity can be emotionally and physically challenging, and it is completely normal to experience a range of feelings when seeking support for your health. If you are finding things difficult, NHS Talking Therapies offers free and confidential help for people who may be struggling with low mood, anxiety or other emotional pressures.

Our Patient Participation Group (PPG) provides patients with the opportunity to keep up with what is happening at the Practice. Its aim is to foster effective communication, engagement and collaboration between the Practice and its patients.

The PPG provides a forum for patients to make suggestions and give feedback about the Practice and its services, and for the Practice to keep patients updated on changes and developments.

Come to meetings which are held bi-monthly, alternating between a venue in Horley or Crawley.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust will be changing their blood test services, from Monday, 3rd March 2025. The new booking system will no longer allow walk-in appointments. Instead, you will need to book an appointment on SwiftQueue, the new booking system.

We will continue to offer blood test appointments at our surgery as usual.

From today patients at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) will be able to book blood test appointments in advance for the first time as Trust launches new patient booking system in a bid to improve patient experience and reduce waiting times.

Why? Having a lot of sugar in your diet doesn’t directly damage healthy kidneys. But it’s high in calories, so it can lead to weight gain. Keeping to a healthy weight can reduce your chances of conditions that affect your kidneys, including high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

Healthy habit 10: Making time for sleep
Why? Getting plenty of sleep allows your body to rest and repair. And some research has suggested sleeping for five hours or less a night may have a direct impact on kidney function. Like other body functions, your kidneys’ function is regulated by your sleep-wake cycle, so poor sleep may impact their ability to do their job.
