Such a poignant poem …. 🎗️

🧡🎗️🧡🎗️🧡🎗️🧡🎗️🧡🎗️🧡🎗️🧡

Today I said “I’m fine”, not once
But five times altogether
When people asked “how are you?”
Then made small talk of the weather

And so I hid behind my mask
The one I’d worn a while
I set in place my bravest face
And dressed it with a smile

And that was how the day went
All “I’m fine” and talk of rain
Until somebody asked me how I was
Then asked again

They asked if I was truly fine
And I said I was not
And they said they were sorry
That they couldn’t do a lot

But then they sat beside me
Whilst I spoke the truth at last
They listened and they held me
As the tears slipped through my mask

And where before, I’d felt I should
Maintain this brave façade,
I realised there was much to gain
By letting down my guard

See, though my load was still the same
It now was not as heavy
‘Cause sitting and offloading it
Had helped a bit already

Today they asked “how are you?”
And I told them I was fine
‘Til someone saw behind the mask
And asked me one more time

And though they may have felt
That there was little they could do
They’ll never know how much it meant
To tell someone the truth

How lovely is this.

Charlie wasn’t able to go to drama last night as he went home from school unwell and needed a blood transfusion so he was so gutted to miss it. It’s something he looks forward to every week.

Thank you to all his friends and teachers at Lewis Devine TC for the support for Charlie. He’ll be back next week stronger than ever 🫶

It’s Charlie’s birthday on Friday so he’s going to be resting up so he can hopefully enjoy it!

1 year.
1 year since Charlie’s diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
It’s a hard day for us as a family. But it has also shown us what incredible strength our son has.
For 365 days he has been fighting. Fighting everyday for his life. With a smile on his face.

This time last year we had to idea. We were having a lovely family day. At 9:45pm our worlds came crashing down. Thinking back to a year ago we could imagine being where we are now.

But we have done it!

365 days! Fighting as a family!

So many heart breaks, so many tears, so much hurt. But so much love.

This journey we have been dealt has shown us what a fighter we have and what a special little person it takes to fight so hard everyday.

I’m sorry it was you Charlie. If I could take it away I would.

It’s not all bad though, we have been aloud so much quality time together as a family and that’s been incredible. We have met some of the most amazing friends and strong warriors just like Charlie who soon became family.

We felt more comfortable at hospital than at home. At least we were safe there, we had nurses, doctors friends.

We had to turn into the nurses, changing dressings, nursing Charlie being sick ALOT, wiping his tears away and just holding him. Telling him everything will be ok.

Let’s go and smash this next year. Bring on March 2024 when you can ring the bell!
