Your baby’s gut is developing FAST in the first 2 years of life — but sometimes things can get a little out of balance. Gut dysbiosis means there’s an imbalance between the “good” and “not-so-good” bacteria in the gut. Here are some things that may indicate gut dysbiosis in babies:

🔸 Frequent colic or excessive crying
🔸 Reflux
🔸 Constipation or very loose stools
🔸 Foul-smelling gas or stools
🔸 Persistent nappy rash
🔸 Eczema or skin irritation
🔸 Frequent ear infections or illness
🔸 Feeding difficulties or poor weight gain

Your baby’s gut health is closely linked to their immune system, digestion, skin, mood & even sleep! The earlier we support a healthy gut, the better the foundation for lifelong wellbeing.

If you want to learn more about infant gut health and how to nourish you baby’s gut then my workshop “First Foods and the Infant Microbiome” is perfect for you.

Join me on Thursday 12th June 10.30am-12.30 pm at in Oswestry. £25 a ticket, drinks, food and entertainment for your baby are all included!

Tickets can be purchased at:

Here’s a little insight into what I do and how I support my clients.

Too often we live with gut symptoms thinking they will resolve themselves or that “this is just my normal”. If you or your child are not passing at least one, pain free, sausage like 💩 a day then something in your gut is not working as it should. This can have knock on impacts to other areas of health as you may not be absorbing nutrients effectively or eliminating toxins frequently enough.

Gut issues can often be eradicated with the correct support and help to identify the root cause of your symptoms. Using a combination of medical history, symptom analysis, food diary’s and stool testing I can support you to do this.

When I started giving solid foods to my first baby, I was very concerned about doing it “right”. I had read a book about baby led weaning and decided to stick to it to the letter.
I was also in my early days of studying nutrition so was very mindful of making homemade, organic, healthy options for my baby. To be honest I found the whole process stressful, anxiety inducing and frustrating.

Fast forward to baby no3, with my nutrition studies complete and a few years of clinical practice under my belt, plus the experience of feeding my other 2 children, I took a very different approach. I felt confident in my choices, relaxed about my approach and was used to the mess! I enjoyed weaning much more third time round and want to share my knowledge and experience with you so that you can enjoy this exciting new stage with your baby.

This is why I designed the First Foods and Infant Microbiome weaning workshop. I want to provide you with the latest nutritional research in a relaxed environment where you can ask questions and voice any worries you have. You will leave feeling informed and confident so that you can enjoy this new stage with your baby.

Share your biggest weaning worry in the comments and tag a mum who is about to start introducing solid foods. It can be a worrying time so let’s share our concerns as they may help another mum in the same situation!

After seeing the amazing frittata that Nia posted yesterday, I had to have it for lunch today. Super simple and packed with protein and veggies. What could be better.

Served mine with some home grown salad from the garden (not my garden - thanks 😘) some alfalfa and radish sprouts and a portion of Welsh kimchi from .

I reckon that’s around 15 different veggies in one dish which is a great way to feed my microbiome. Add in the probiotics in the kimchi and this is a great dish to nourish your gut.

Recipe:
⭐️ 10 eggs
⭐️ 1 red onion (sliced)
⭐️ 8 mushrooms (sliced)
⭐️ 4 asparagus shoots (sliced)
⭐️ 1/4 pack of Boursin
⭐️ k**b of butter
⭐️ salt & pepper

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius
Fry the sliced onions in the butter on low for around 15 minutes.
Meanwhile crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk well.
Add the mushrooms to the onions and cook for 5 minutes until the water is released.
Pour the eggs in a lined baking dish (if you haven’t got a skillet that can go in the oven - if so keep it all in the pan) and add the onion & mushroom mix, the sliced asparagus and the Boursin chunks (any cheese is fine, I had this in the fridge).
Season with Celtic sea salt and black pepper and give it a mix round.
Cook on 180 for 20-25 minutes.

Enjoy 👩🏼‍🍳

Thanks to Nia for the inspo for todays lunch!

👶🏼First Foods and the Infant Microbiome👶🏼

Research shows that the first 1000 days from conception are vital for the development of the gut microbiome. What a baby eats as their first foods and in their first few years of life impacts the composition of their gut microbiome - the mix of bacteria, Protozoa, fungi and viruses that live in our gut.

The gut microbiome has a direct impact on:
- our immune system
- allergies
- brain health
- inflammation
- metabolism
- hormone health

My new course is aimed at parents who are invested in their child’s health and want to know how to optimise their child’s microbiome to give them the best start in life.

Join me for a fun and interactive session, combining the latest science with practical weaning advice, giving you the confidence that you are getting your little one off to the best start!

You may have seen the headlines about or watched the programme on baby pouches. It may have left you feeling worried, confused or concerned around food choices for your baby.

The supermarket aisles are full of baby food products with lots of health claims on the labels.
The internet/press is full of information about what is classed as healthy/ unhealthy / ultra processed.
Research on ultra processed foods shows how bad it is for us and the science around how food impacts our gut is mounting.

How, as parents, are we supposed to navigate all of this information and make the best choices when introducing our children to solid food?

Join me for a fun and friendly workshop where I work though all these questions and more. Giving you space to ask questions in and gain the confidence to tackle the weaning journey in an informed and relaxed way.

Next session 12th of June in Oswestry. Booking essential. Link in bio to book your ticket.

🌟 POSTNATAL DEPLETION🌟

Growing and giving birth to a baby is hard work for your body and certain nutrients can be depleted during this time. Focusing on adding these back into your diet postpartum can support your healing and recovery.

The first few months after having a baby isn’t the time to restrict your diet. You need to nourish yourself now more than ever. But it’s tricky to try and think about your own meals when you are trying to keep a tiny human alive, especially as you both get used to this new life together. It is quite normal for mums to be living off coffee, toast and biscuits for the first few weeks as prepping, cooking and eating real food can seem impossible! You may have done some prep in advance and have a freezer stash which is fab. If not, focus on ready prepped/cooked options that are going to make life easier but still boost you up and help your body recover.

🌟Add tins of chickpeas or lentils to ready made soup to bulk them up and boost the nutrition

🌟 Buy pre cooked salmon or mackerel in vac packs for fridge aisle. Easy way to boost your protein and omega 3 with no prep necessary

🌟Eat a handful of nuts alongside your cake & chocolate to buffer the sugar crash & add in more protein, good fats & minerals

🌟Boost your boring toast with some good quality nut butter and chopped banana for an energy boost.

🌟 A good quality protein powder can be a quick way to ensure you are meeting your daily requirements. Add to a smoothie loaded with 3/4 veg & 1/4 fruit for a quick boost.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help and if you have a good support network I’m sure they would cook you a few meals for the freezer if you ask.

If you are visiting a new mum, take a stew/curry/lasagna/homemade soup with you. The baby will have enough new clothes, a good gift for mum is a much better idea!

🤱🏼 National Breastfeeding in Public Day 🤱🏼

Here are two pics of me feeding my two boys whilst out and about to celebrate Breastfeeding in Public day. Normalising breastfeeding and supporting women to feel confident to feed in public are passions of mine.

As I continue with my training towards becoming a certified lactation consultant, I have met so many amazing breastfeeding women. I’ve also learnt about the politics of breastfeeding and how we as a society are not great at supporting women with their feeding choices. Providing support to mums and championing breastfeeding has become part of my life’s mission and as I continue my training I am more and more aware of how much support is needed as many women don’t get to meet their own personal feeding goals because the support wasn’t there for them.

So it’s lovely to see a national day publicising and celebrating breastfeeding, although it’s a shame that we need it and that seeing women breastfeeding whilst going about their day isn’t part of our cultural norm.

Looking back at these pictures makes me feel proud of my breastfeeding journey and now I’m a trained peer supporter I can see that both of my feeding positions could have done with a few adjustments 😂
