I'm Caz, I'm IAIM trained and teach baby massage classes in my home in Greenham, with a relaxed, non-judgemental and comfy atmosphere. I can also do 1 to 1 sessions and classes at others' houses. I'm a Biologist and have a keen interest in the hormonal, emotional and physical benefits of baby massage to babies and parents. Benefits of Baby Massage:
1) Interaction - improved communication, bonding and attachment between parent and baby, increased confidence in parenting and all round improved baby handling skills. There are also the benefits of peer-to-peer interaction within the class environment, groups of new parents having the opportunity to meet and chat can have many beneficial outcomes in terms of social interaction, reducing isolation and provides a very positive environment for support.
2) Stimulation - the hands on routine works all over baby’s body from the head to toes. Our strokes are designed to stimulate many of the internal systems (for example the digestive, immune and nervous system). By regularly stimulating a baby’s systems, it is giving them a gentle work-out each day.
3) Relief – babies always act on cue when I talk about this, by burping or passing wind! Baby massage has been proven to ease many common issues, such as digestive problems, teething, nasal congestion and sleep issues. It’s always so nice to hear when a baby’s constipation is relieved.
4) Relaxation - the process of massage helps to release oxytocin in both a baby’s system and also in the parent doing the massage. Oxytocin is a stress busting hormone that combats stress, improves relaxation and also works as a natural pain reliever. The class environment is friendly, non-judgemental and informal which hopefully makes parents and babies feel relaxed, calm and therefore enjoy the course.
