I love the school holidays, but they are a sacrifice as well as a gift... The school holidays for mums usually means less routine, and for me, also less dedicated time for my pranayama and asana practice. Even after a short break my body and mind crave it. The familiarity of breath and movement have an a soothing effect on my mental state it's like coming home.

So for a few more days, I make the most of the late morning cuddles, the quick 5 min meditations or movement snacks before leaving the house or that sleepy time yoga nidra recording I now know by heart... also, I'm not a little bit better at football before coffee 😆

Natures loving reminder: You can find growth in most environments, but you have to be able to adapt.

Something I've learned from my beloved teachers over the years, is that resilience isn’t just about pushing on and moving forward no matter what, it’s about adjusting, softening where we once tensed, and working with what there is, rather than what we wish for.

Growth isn't always a big success or visible to the outside, sometimes it’s learning how to root yourself in unfamiliar ground or an environment less giving. Often it's to see potential where perhaps others don't. Especially within yourself.

How is April treating you so far?

With so much uncertainty and change in the world, it’s natural to wonder about the future—for ourselves and the next generation. In times like these, staying grounded and feeling connected to the present is more important than ever.

Here are a couple simple practices that help me...
- Practice a "psychological sigh," by taking two quick inhales through the nose followed by a long exhale through the mouth, which can help reduce stress and anxiety
- If your yoga practice is usually dynamic, add some restorative poses like Child’s Pose (Balansana) or Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani) to nurture the more quiet parts of yourself. Practice these poses in a supported way. With blocks, props and time. Allow yourself to be held by the ground beneath you without any effort.

Have a play with pointing your feet in wheel pose.
Even if your heels touch the ground, consciously activate your pada bandha by pressing ball of the feet into the mat below you and lifting the heels.

If you have tight hip flexor or feel restriction in the ankles, lifting the heels can create the feeling of space around the lumbar spine, shifting the curve more into the thoracic spine and as such making the pose more accessible.

If Urdhva Dhanurasana is not in your practice, apply the same principle in bridge pose.

Art (in my case mostly lighting design) and yoga all have some things in common: they’re very personal expressions of energy and flow.
The way they are received, felt or looked at, can be forever changed by their environment, your personal state of mind and the time in your life you experience them.

My favourite song or painting or pose, may never be yours.
My favourite painting on a sad day is not the same as a happy day.
My body has days where child pose is a gift and others where it is a chore...

It does not make these expressions any more or less special, but it celebrates the array of beauty, how wonderfully different we all are even just different versions of ourselves within a day. It reminds me to try old ways in new settings, to ride the wave of the moment and to appreciate how much more to discover is out there.

I love Tiger Pose (vyaghrasana) - it may look like a simple asana, but it challenges the body in many ways.
It's a heart - opener as well as a balancing asana. It targets the wrists, arms, shoulders, spine, hips, and legs as well as being beautiful opportunity to experience spaciousness of the breath in the front body.

In Hindu mythology, the tiger is closely linked to the goddess Durga, among others.
Her riding the tiger signifies that she has tamed and harnessed her primal instincts rather than being ruled by them. Together, Durga and her tigers embody determination and courage, capable of conquering any obstacle and overcoming every challenge.

One of my favourite things about travelling for work?

Definitely finding impressive trees.
Most yogis love a good tree, you know... rooted, yet flexible, but also branching out, providing a place to rest. But did you know, while tree roots reach deep into the earth, the roots are all connected below the surface, sharing nutrients, supporting one another in ways we rarely see. But not only do they help each other, they know that creating a healthy community will create a thriving environment 🌼 ❤️

I'm pleased to say, we are a family of flower-smellers... my favourite part of the return to spring is the shift in smells and colours. We are coming from darker, damp and earthy, to flowery and grassy ith a sprinkle of colours before it all unfolds into it's full bloom.
It remind us that we can come from the dark season: feeling tender and slow, to unfurling tenderly and cautiously at first, filled with potential and hope, to finally come to our full bloom..

Juggling wearing the different hats of yoga teacher, Mamaaaaa, and lighting designer can be a challenging, especially if it all gets busy at the same time.. as it does in real life.
Luckily I love all wearing all my hats, but as i get older I've learned that I need to lean into slowing down, keeping my boundaries, yoga and eating well ESPECIALLY, when it all happens at the same time. While all my tricks seem counterintuitive at the time, when rushing becomes status quo, but they make all the difference in case the sprint needs to become a marathon.

Our sense of touch is a beautiful way to (self-)soothe. Our connective tissues have the ability to sense touch that indicates affection. Oxytosin is released from the pituitary gland after 20 sec of sustained touch. Not only does this provide important feedback to the brain and nervous system about the body, it also helps to reduce stress hormones and elevates your mood.
Ideally hug your loved ones (four 🐈 🐢 🐕 or two legged), but if that isn't an option you can self-soothe by consciously feeling your body touch the ground or another part of you. -feel your belly on your thighs in childpose for example- or find another way to experience positive skin contact (ie. contact that is enjoyable or evokes a good feeling) by tapping or self massage...
