And just like that JC Therapies turned 5!

In a world where (apparently) 45-60% of business fail in the first 5 years I feel lucky and privileged to be so busy I’m debating closing my books for a few weeks!🙈

To each and every one of you who have ever shared a post, recommended me to someone or come to see me yourself- thank you 🙏 As a business that relies wholly on word of mouth advertising I have you guys to thank for keeping me here 5 years on.

As for the next 5 years of JC Therapies…who knows 😂 I am not a great planner and tend to take things day by day. But what I do know, and can guarantee, is that I will continue to provide you guys with the best possible treatment I can for the next year and beyond.

So happy 5th birthday to me and Steve (and can someone ask the boss where my cake is please?)!

Rehab can be slow, boring and infuriating and filled with highs but also many lows. This lady has had 2 hip replacements over the last 2 years, sustained a pretty bad shoulder injury and suffers from ME fatigue which impacts her rehab hugely.

Despite this, she has stuck in with her rehab. She has trusted me and the healing process and has progressed from struggling to walk round her street to returning to the gym with the goal of playing badminton again. More importantly she can finally get in and out of her bath herself- something she had pretty much written off.

I feel I also need to add that I did not regularly see this lady for the full 2 years. I encourage people, especially those with longer rehab times, to work on their physio and return when they feel they need to- whether that is for a quick check up or to help progress their exercises. I don’t offer deals such as block bookings or incentives to return because I don’t want to encourage people to return when they don’t need to. I want you to have the confidence to continue your rehab knowing that I am here if you need me, but quite probably you don’t.

MEET THE TEAM
(Time for an update as the other post is from 2021!)

I am Jo Craig- a Dunfermline born and bred girl and the proud owner and sole physiotherapist at JC Therapies.

I graduated with an MSc in Physiotherapy in 2005 and worked for a long time in both Edinburgh and Fife hospitals in all areas. After having my first child I specialised in orthopaedics and then after my second child I left the NHS to the more flexible world of private practice. After a couple of years working at a physio practice I opened JC Therapies - right in the middle of a pandemic…

And 5 years later I’m still here! I also work in a nursing home 1 day a week and occasionally in the hospital when needed. I treat mostly adults and enjoy helping people to keep active and pain free well into their old age!

When I’m not working I’m either looking after my kids, trying to ice skate, lifting some weights or exploring new countries and cities- preferably with a glass of wine to rehydrate along the way. I also have a Vinted obsession 🙈

My fun fact remains the same as 2021- if I wasn’t a physio I’d love to be an interior designer and convert a barn in the north of Scotland or in New Zealand!!

Please return to a recycling centre or there is a number to call (click on the link) to have equipment collected.
Please recycle!!!!!!

We are asking people to return specialised equipment like bed rails, trolleys or shower seats they no longer need so they can be recycled for reuse.

We've already had a great response from Fifers as part of our campaign - with predominantly walking aids like crutches returned.

But there's a range of additional items of specialist equipment that can be of use to others that we are asking people to return too.

To find a list of items please visit our website: https://brnw.ch/21wRpKO

Happy new year from mine to yours!

Another year over- thank you to you all for making it another busy one. Forever grateful to all of you who come to see me, recommend me or simply share a social media post from my little business.

As with years gone by, I don’t have massive goals for JC Therapies- I am quite happy keeping it small so I can keep my standards high.

I hope 2025 is kind to all my clients and you achieve all your goals. I’ve finally decided I’m going to learn to swim properly so have signed up to adult swim lessons - never too old to start or improve on something!

A little Monday motivation for you all on this beautiful crisp cold morning!
Taken at my PT’s gym on Saturday the words are so true. The first and often hardest step in anything is making a decision to do it.
So whether that decision is to finally get that ni**le seen to, book an exercise class, make that phone call or to take a 30min walk at lunch, here is your sign to do it now! Your future self will thank you…

Shared this as a story but deserves a post too.

As a newbie physio I described physio as a placebo. I figured out pretty quickly that the manual therapy I was taught in uni didn’t do much and it seemed to be a lot of talking. Truth be told I was totally disheartened and wanted to leave…

Years later I use communication more than anything else in my treatment. Now I am, ahem, more mature, I understand the link between mental and physical health so much more. I now realise that what I thought was placebo was actually reassurance, knowledge, guidance, relationship building and more.

So if you like a quiet physio- I’m not for you. I’m truthful, won’t avoid difficult conversations (but hopefully done in a nice way!) and will do my best to have you leave my clinic understanding what is causing your pain and what the plan is. Unbelievably this alone can be enough to reduce your pain…

2 messages I woke up to this morning.

The first thing I always focus on is helping you get a good nights sleep. With a good sleep your coping mechanisms are better, your mood is better and your perception of your pain reduces.

What’s interesting about these 2 clients are that I didn’t touch one the entire assessment and the other I touched only to apply tape.

No ‘magic hands’ - just reassurance, advice, gentle movement and exercise (and a little tape!).

Physio doesn’t need to be complex to be effective.
