As part of the Health Visiting Service, local Children and Family Centres now offer 'self-weigh' baby facilities.

These facilities are designated for non-walkers up to 18 months of age, and you must make a booking to attend. You can find a complete list of venues and links to the Eventbrite page for bookings on our Linktree: https://tr.ee/5unXNE3tIW

For Instagram users, the link is available in our bio or in the stories. You can also scan the QR code featured in our post graphic.

Please Note:
- A health professional will not be present at the self-weigh facilities; they are intended for parents and caregivers to monitor their child's weight and record it in the red book.
- These facilities are not suitable for situations involving health concerns. If you have such concerns, we recommend reaching out to the Health Visiting Team for support and advice or visiting one of our drop-in clinics.

Don't forget your red book!

During the summer holidays, many families will be enjoying time by the water, whether in the UK or abroad.

It’s essential to recognise the potential dangers associated with water and to supervise children at all times while they are in or near it.

This animation from the Royal Life Saving Society UK - explains the water safety code, offering easy-to-remember tips that can save lives. Whether you're at home, by the coast, or near any body of water, this code helps you make quick, informed decisions and know what to do in an emergency.

The Water Safety Code Includes:
⛔Stop and Think: Assess your surroundings. Identify potential dangers and follow local safety signs and advice.
🌊Stay Together: Always go with friends or family when near water. Swim only at lifeguarded locations.
And In an Emergency:
🆘Call 999: If you're at the coast, request the Coastguard. Never enter the water to perform a rescue.
🏊Float: If you fall in or become tired, stay calm, float on your back, and call for help. If someone else is in trouble, throw something that floats to them.

Sometimes, the barer, the better. This is certainly the safest way for your baby to sleep. 😴

Does your baby’s cot look empty? Are there no toys? No thick, bulky blankets or bedding? No pods, nests, or hammocks? Does it look not very cute or Instagrammable at all?

Good.

The safest cot for a baby is a clear cot. That means removing anything that isn’t essential. Babies need just two items in their cot:
- A firm, flat, waterproof mattress.
- Lightweight bedding or sleepbag.

This is because extra items could cover their face and obstruct their breathing. They may cause your baby to get too hot, which can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). A clear cot may look bare, but it can save lives.

If you’re heading to the beach with your family this summer, please keep safety in mind so that your trip is remembered for all the right reasons.

And, don’t forget even older children who can swim can still get into difficulties in the sea. They may over-estimate how strong a swimmer they are or under-estimate risks.

Breast milk is the ideal first food for a baby👶. It's safe, clean and contains antibodies which protect against dangerous illnesses.

✅ Start within 1 hour after birth 🤱
✅ Breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months 🤱
✅ Continue alongside healthy family foods until the baby is at least 2 years old 🤱
