Tracheal suction training… but not the kind where you sit through slides and forget it a week later.

We were back at this week working with their nursing team and yet again things got properly hands-on.

Think real-world scenarios, clinical decision making under pressure… and homemade sputum (with added green glitter for effect), yes I went there! Messy, slightly chaotic, and exactly how airway management can be in reality.

We also finally named our simulator model...any guesses what we’ve gone with? 🧐

What stood out most was the quality of the nurses in the room.

Engaged, asking the right questions, and really getting into the detail of:

• When suction is actually indicated
• Recognising different tracheostomy tubes
• Adapting technique to the patient in front of you
• Safe and effective yankauer suction in practice

No death by PowerPoint. Just practical, realistic training that builds confidence and clinical reasoning.

Because when it comes to airway clearance, the difference between confident and hesitant practice is felt immediately by the patient.

If your team would benefit from hands-on respiratory training that actually translates into practice, get in touch.

And seriously… what do you think we named the simulator?

Training days remind me that clinical skills are never just about technique. They are about confidence, judgement and good clinical reasoning.

Today I delivered tracheal suction training for the nursing team at National Star College. Two sessions focused on safe suction technique, recognising tube types, escalation, and the real-world challenges of airway clearance.

The fake sputum simulation definitely caused the most discussion… and a bit of mess. But that is the point. Airway management is rarely neat, and simulation needs to reflect reality if staff are going to feel confident when it matters.

The best part was the quality of discussion from the nurses. We talked through recognising different tracheostomy tubes, when suction is clinically indicated, and the practical challenges of collecting sputum samples that are actually useful for microbiology.

Everyone passed their competency assessment, but more importantly they fully engaged with the learning and asked excellent clinical questions.

For people who rely on tracheostomies, confident suction technique can be the difference between distress and relief, literally life and death. Training like this really matters.

Huge thanks to the team at for getting stuck in… even when the suction simulator had other ideas.

International Women’s Day.

Today I’m feeling incredibly proud to be a woman running my own business, while also being a mum of three, a wife, a daughter, a friend, and all the other roles that quietly sit behind the scenes.

I know how privileged I am to have the opportunity to build something of my own and to work with people I genuinely care about. Not every woman gets that chance, and I never take it for granted.

But let’s not pretend it’s easy.

Running a business while raising a family is relentless. There are days when the juggle feels impossible. The mental load, the responsibility for people’s lives, their livelihoods, the constant decision-making, the late nights, the early mornings, the mum guilt, the self-doubt. It’s a lot.

Some days you feel like you’re smashing it.
Other days you feel like you’re failing at everything.

Both can exist at the same time.

So today I’m celebrating the women building businesses, raising families, supporting others, showing up when they’re exhausted, and still finding a way to keep going.

It’s messy. It’s hard. It’s meaningful.

And I wouldn’t change it.

Happy International Women’s Day to the women doing the work, seen and unseen. I appreciate those of you in my life 💕

Bringing Healthcare Professionals Together
Our Inaugural Networking Event – LEWis Brand & Midwinter Physiotherapy

Coffee, Cake and Connections

Friday 16th January marked an exciting milestone as Laura Aggett Director and lead orthotist at LEWis BRAND Orthotics alongside Sian Midwinter Director from Midwinter Physiotherapy, hosted our first healthcare professionals networking event and what a fantastic morning it was.

Healthcare professionals from across Gloucestershire and Worcestershire came together to connect, have a coffee and cake, share insight and begin building strong professional relationships. We are also extremely grateful to Laura Asplin and Joint Operations Ltd, who kindly sponsored the event and supported the delivery of the morning.

From the outset, the atmosphere reflected exactly what we had hoped to create; open, collaborative and focused on improving outcomes for the people we support.

I recently received an email from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy outlining a revised policy position on healthcare organisation and funding. In short, the message is positive: physiotherapy is a unified profession, parity of esteem matters, and independent, private and not-for-profit physiotherapists are integral to healthcare delivery. The tone is collaborative. The intent is right.

On paper, I agree with almost all of it.
