“31 is a significant number. It's the number of women who die from metastatic breast cancer every day in the UK, that's 1 woman every 45 minutes. Knowledge is power and I will continue to use my voice to demand better awareness of signs and symptoms of the disease, for women like myself living with metastatic breast cancer. We don't take no for an answer. And if you're someone currently living with MBC, understand your body to deal with issues that come along. These can sometimes be out of the blue, so be kind to yourself".

Jo is an ambassador for which is developed and funded by Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK Limited. She was diagnosed at 38 with primary breast cancer and lived cancer free for 7 years before receiving news that her cancer had recurred. Since her diagnosis, she founded ABC diagnosis & METUPUK to increase awareness on the realities of living with metastatic breast cancer and the importance of understanding recurrence. Jo continues to advocate for increased research and access to clinical trials, as well as better support for patients and their families.

There are many ways to tell a story and this year we've invited Kristina Varaksina Photography to share her intimate take on the experiences of the Moments That Count ambassadors. “I’ve slowly year by year started to find glimmers of myself before cancer. It’s definitely made me less tolerant of certain things as life is way too short to sweat the small stuff. I might have secondary breast cancer, but I am also a mum, a wife, a businesswoman and cancer can’t take that away."

Lisa is an ambassador for . She was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2017 following a primary breast cancer diagnosis in that same year. Lisa has since dedicated her time to charity, supporting the metastatic breast cancer community and advocating passionately on the importance of prioritising physical and mental health in breast cancer. Lisa tells a story of rebuilding her life after diagnosis, finding joy and herself again in her passion – theatre.

“My Granny Jean is a very special woman. As she has gotten older, she is much less able to do things but I still try to spend time with her. Nine years ago, my granny lost her husband Jack, and then only a year later her daughter Helen. My mum. Despite this she shows strength and resilience.”

“I see myself now as feisty, assertive and strong. I know myself much better and am not afraid to say how I feel and ask for what I want. When I was diagnosed, I took the decision to go flat - I had 34GG breasts, eighteen months later I had none. I used to wear huge bras, which constricted my everyday life, especially during exercise. I no longer wear bras which is so freeing and liberating.”

Juliet is an ambassador for . She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and has since made the decision to undergo two mastectomies. She is now in complete remission, living flat and strongly advocates for informed choices, and for better conversations between primary and secondary breast cancer patients.

"I always find treatment days very emotionally tiring, and this day was no different. I will calm myself to get in the zone before, during, and even after my treatment - shutting out my family life and all the demands on my time, so I can focus on the process. On the drive to the hospital, I listen to a podcast or music to get me in the right headspace. I reflect on how the last 3 weeks of the cycle have been and if there is anything I need to tell my nurses and care team, all of whom have been like family to me. We always hug when we first see each other in the unit and when I say goodbye until the next time – exactly like I would with my daughter or my sister."

Claire was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and lives with secondary breast cancer. She is actively involved in a wide range of initiatives to support the secondary breast cancer community, as well as being one of the ambassadors of campaign. In the UK, a baby is born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) every five days.

SMA is a rare genetic disease that has a devastating impact on babies and their families. Detecting it early can make a world of difference, but without testing at birth, it's too late to prevent irreversible damage.

Over 65% of EU countries have already added SMA testing to their newborn screening. Now, it’s time for the UK to do the same!

Join us in raising awareness and demanding change. Because for babies born with SMA
