Myself and Cath attended the TOMs (therapy outcome measures) conference in Birmingham yesterday!

🤓 Learning more about how to collect data to evidence the interventions we use at Blue Skies.

🤓 Presenting a poster on our recently published research.

🤓 Getting a sneak peek at the new edition of the TOMs manual which containing the first ever standardised tool to measure the level of retained primitive reflexes. This has been created by the U.K. Developmental Practitioners Association (DPA) steering committee. I am so excited to be a part of the team that created this tool.

🤓 Listening to Pete Griffin from the DPA talk (to a mainly NHS audience) about where we hope to go with future research.

It was great to be invited to speak with some of Wirral’s Headteachers today. Several are now considering sending staff to train in Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT) at Blue Skies and/or having some pupils assessed.

We already work with around 40 Wirral/Liverpool Schools supporting pupils 1-2-1 with reflex integration movement programmes and/or training staff in RMT.

Very exciting times ahead 🤩

⭐️ Progress report ⭐️

After 2 months of a reflex integration movement programme (10mins per day) an adopted child who started school on September is making wonderful progress.

🤩 Emotional regulation has improved so much that life is easier for everyone at home. Her Mum said they had felt at a loss with her challenges but now are hopeful for change.

🤩 Wetting in school has reduced significantly.

🤩 The child is now back in class and learning with her peers rather than finding it too overwhelming and having to spend large amounts of time outside of the classroom.

What a great start!

🥇 Reggie 🥇

Since his reflexes assessment one month ago Reggie (who has just turned 3 and is on the ASD pathway) has been working hard on his movements at home. He has been back to Blue Skies today and his Mum had a list of changes to report…

- First ever wee wees on the potty
- First toothbrush without resistance
- Retention of a letter and spontaneously saying it in context
- First time using two sounds together
- Not having to be peeled off Mum at nursery drop off
- Extended family noticing that he is calmer

Not all of these new skills are consistent but after one month new skills are starting to emerge. There was a short period of unsettled sleep during this time.

I am so excited to see Reggie again in 4-6 weeks time.
