At The Hearing Care Partnership, we believe a hearing appointment is about more than just your hearing – it’s about connection.

When someone opens up in our practices, it’s often more than decibels or devices.

It might be a memory shared. A worry voiced. A moment of vulnerability. And in those moments, our audiologists listen – with empathy, kindness, and no rush.

Because to us, caring for your hearing means caring about you.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re proud to be part of communities where trust, conversation, and compassion truly matter. 💬💜

On the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, we pause to remember the bravery and resilience of a remarkable generation.

Their sacrifices helped shape the peaceful world we live in today - and for that, we are truly grateful.

🎼 Did you know?

Perfect pitch - the rare ability to name or sing musical notes without a reference - isn't just for childhood prodigies. 🎹

While early training helps, studies show it can also be developed later in life through practice and exposure. Genetics, environment, and brain plasticity all play a role in unlocking this fascinating skill. 🧬

At The Hearing Care Partnership, we know that hearing isn’t just about sound—it’s about unlocking your full potential. 💡👂

Did you know that the hue of your earwax can vary widely? 👂

Ranging from pale shades to deeper tones, healthy earwax looks different for everyone. But generally, “normal” wax is a shade of yellow, orange, or brown.

⚪️ Off-white: fresh earwax.
🟡 Golden: less fresh with some debris.
🟤 Brown: older earwax.
⚫🟢🔴 Earwax being black, green, or red can be signs of a problem such as infection, injury or impacted earwax.

Did you know?

Synaesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in another pathway.

For example, for some individuals with synaesthesia, sounds may evoke vivid colours, shapes, or textures, creating a unique multisensory perception of the world around them.

Synaesthesia comes in various forms, with sound-colour synaesthesia being one of the most common types. 🌈

Did you know? 'Sound localisation' refers to the brain's ability to determine the direction and origin of a sound in space. 🗺️🧭

The brain plays a central role in this process, integrating and interpreting the spatial cues provided by the ears to generate a coherent perceptual experience.

Reduced sound localisation skills can compromise one's ability to navigate safely in their surroundings, potentially impacting their safety in public settings.

Did you know that exposure to loud sounds can lead to irreversible damage to your hearing? 👂🔊

Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a type of hearing impairment caused by exposure to loud noises, either suddenly at a high intensity or over an extended period at lower levels. Prolonged exposure to loud sounds can damage the delicate hair cells in the inner ear, leading to permanent hearing loss.

Noise-induced hearing loss is entirely preventable. Protect your hearing by identifying hazardous noises, using hearing protection and staying away from loud environments when possible. Additionally, you should get your hearing tested if you suspect any loss.

You may have seen an article last week in The Independent with a warning to anyone who enjoys wild swimming, paddleboarding and surfing about the risk of Surfers Ear.

Surfer’s Ear, also known as Exostosis does not only affect your hearing when you’re catching the waves down in Cornwall. It can be irritated by cold, wet weather too.

Exostosis is where bones grow abnormally in the ear due to repeated exposure to cold water. It affects many people who swim or surf a lot in the sea, hence the name. If the swellings narrow your ear canal too much, wax and water can get trapped in the ear, which can result in an infection and hearing loss.

If you have any concerns about your hearing or the health of your ears, you can book a FREE Full Hearing Assessment at The Hearing Care Partnership:

Did you know? The first hearing devices date back to the 13th century! 🕰️🦻

Long before modern technology, people ingeniously repurposed animal horns as makeshift hearing aids. With a rounded tip that fit the ear and the wide opening amplifying sound, they offered a clever 'solution' to hearing challenges.

We've come a long way since then!
