Feedback YDH Infant Feeding Drop-in 🤰

“It was great, we got some really good support from Aimee and the team. It really helped us and we've got a plan going forward.”

“My midwife and the infant feeding team recommended the drop-in service to me. I went in today with my husband and baby and was greeted in such a friendly and welcoming manner by Aimee. She checked baby over and we spoke about the struggles that we were having. The advice we were given was extremely helpful and we managed a very successful feed with her help. Our questions were answered and we were given practical advice to move forwards. I have no reservations about returning if I need to and would highly recommend to others.”

“INCREDIBLE! Beth and Sharon were so knowledgeable and reassuring to me. I will be back tomorrow. THANK YOU SO MUCH!”

🩷Amy's birth story of Baby Neve🩷

"Hello. I gave birth to my little girl recently and just wanted to pass on my thanks to everyone involved in her birth. I went in to be induced on Saturday and after a delay getting the pessary (the midwife was amazing at chasing this) and then ending up with the gel, we finally got to labour ward on Monday morning. Holly was amazing on Monday before I got transferred and it was so nice that she popped in to see us after Neve was born. Evie was with us through the day and for her birth and was so lovely and calm, she made me feel so at ease despite me being anxious that I would have another haemorrhage.
zoe and Amelia were also there and looked after us so well. They kept me informed throughout and when. Neve's heart rate started to drop, they remained calm and just explained that we need to get her out quickly. Also a big thank you to all the midwives on Willow ward too! After 2 previous traumatic births and a couple of not so friendly staff members, this birth has been so positive and every single person who looked after us even briefly, couldn't have been more kind and caring. Thank you so much for helping my last birth be so positive."

Baby wearing has many benefits including:

•Encouraging bonding and meets baby’s strong need to be close to their parent/carers
•Helps to regulate temperature, heart and breathing rate.
•Supports brain development
•Can help reduce crying frequency
•Can help baby develop better sleep cycles

There are many other benefits beyond this, however, it is important to always use slings safely. Please always follow the manufacturers instructions.

Current advice in the U.K is to follow the T.I.C.K.S acronym:
Tight
In view at all times
Close enough to kiss
Keep Chin off the chest
Supported back

Newborns are not very good at regulating their own temperature, so it is important to ensure they don’t overheat or get too cold.

In cold weather:
•Layer your baby in breathable fabrics which can be removed if your baby appears too warm.
•Make sure baby’s position is clear of loose fabric and their airway is open.
•Protect your baby’s arms and legs as these are most likely to get cold as they are not in contact with your body.
•Wear sensible footwear to minimise the risk of slipping

In warm weather:
•Consider using a sling which is thinner and lighter.
•Reduce layers on your baby, and use light breathable fabrics.
•Protect baby’s legs and arms from the sun with sun cream (6months +) or light clothing.
•If you both feel hot, take a break from the sling and seek shade.
•Ensure both you and baby stay hydrated. You may want to offer extra feeds in hot weather.
•Consider cooling aids such as fans.

If you would like further information on using a sling please speak to your midwife or health visitor. Some areas have sling libraries where you can try out slings and hire them rather than buy them.

🩷Simina's Birth Story🩷

"I remember my birth at Musgrove in 2023. What a story. I was 12 days overdue. At 10 days past my due date, I arrived at the hospital with quite uncomfortable abdominal pain, I was scheduled for induction 3 days later, but since I arrived at the hospital before induction I agreed to be induced sooner. The next day at 3pm my water broke, I was so excited that it was finally time to meet my baby, but due to the fact that I was not dilated it started to be very difficult.

😅Advice for staying cool in the hot weather☀️

Stay Hydrated - Remember to drink regular fluids like water throughout the day. You could freeze your bottle the night before to ensure the water remains cool

Cold Drinks/Snacks - Try making low sugar homemade smoothies, or ice lollies or frozen fruit as a healthy way to cool down

Stay in the shade - Enjoy the outdoors but choose to go out when its cooler like the mornings and evenings. Remember to stay in the shade

Wear Sunscreen - Remember to project your skin and wear high factor SPF that's suitable for sensitive skin

Wear loose clothing - Restrictive materials can trap in heat and leave you feeling sweaty and uncomfortable. Choose lightweight materials that fit loosely around your body

Change your bedding - Have you ever thought your sheets might be making you hotter? Sheets made of 100% natural fibres like cotton or linen are materials that breath easily and will keep you cool. You could also invest in a cooling pillow too

Spray bottle - You can buy handheld fans that have built in water spray but why not make your own. All you need is a cheap plastic spray bottle, fill it with water and keep it in the fridge overnight. Then in the day spray a light mist over your skin to keep you cool

Alter exercise - Don’t exert yourself - adapt exercising routines, not in the middle of the day/ less intense etc.

Fans - Fans are a great way to keep cool and they come in loads of sizes so you can use them at home or at work. You could even make your own air con by filling a tray with ice and place it directly in front of a fan. The cool air will be then be wafted around the room

Getting in water - Getting in water can provide some instant relief from hot weather. This could be a bath, shower or paddling pool. Alternatively you could place just your feet in some cold water - this could be the paddling pool or just a small bowl.
