🚨 SIMWARS HEAT A RECAP! 🚨

Last weekend, PHCEMS x SCRUBS hosted Heat One of the QUB SimWars selection process — a morning of high-fidelity simulation, teamwork, and emergency medicine challenges in the InterSim Centre 🩺⚡️

Over six advanced scenarios, participants worked through airway emergencies, acute deterioration, trauma, and more — all supported and judged by EM consultants, ANPs, and simulation fellows.

💬 Why do we run the heats?
SimWars heats are designed to:
• Select the highest-scoring teams across both heats to represent QUB at the all-Ireland SimWars competition 🇮🇪
• Provide students with safe, low-stakes practice in emergencies they rarely encounter in teaching
• Offer high-quality feedback from senior clinicians
• Give OSCE-relevant experience in a setting outside the pressure of curriculum assessments
• Support interprofessional learning between medical and nursing students

✨ Feedback from participants and judges was fantastic — students loved the opportunity to practise realistic emergency medicine scenarios in such a supportive, high-tech environment.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, and to the clinicians who volunteered their time to judge, teach, and debrief ❤️

Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care Student & Trainee Group Northern Ireland x QUB Pre-Hospital Care and Emergency Medicine Society Present ‘The Remote Medic’ Lecture by Adam Creighton

“Adam has been working as a medic since 2007 and is now a UK paramedic and US flight medic. He has worked for humanitarian and international medical organisations, as well as in the oil, gas, and mining sectors and with foreign governments. He has provided medical care at high altitude and led overland 4x4 expeditions through the Darién Gap. Adam has taught medicine overseas, including to special forces units. He holds a BSc in Paramedicine and collects LEGO.”

You’ll use real sim equipment, work in teams, and be guided by volunteer doctors who’ll walk you through each scenario and debrief afterward.

💭 Expect practical teaching, team-based problem-solving, and cases that’ll build your confidence for SimWars 2025 (and maybe even save your OSCEs 👀).
