A patient I saw last week sent me this message adding that, after years of searching, she felt our session provided the “missing piece of the jigsaw” and finally made sense of her symptoms providing her with a way forward that made her feel hopeful for the first time in a long time.

Good to be accurately quoted in this article about the use of vi*****rs in managing pelvic pain associated with sexual activity and other symptoms of sexual dysfunction.
Enjoyed a rich discussion with .science last week about developing new products that are hovering across the line line between pleasure and health.
As a pelvic physiotherapist I was explaining how there is certainly a place for utilising the growing development of “sex tech” within our management of persistent pain/sensitisation around sexual activity.
But it will only be a successful adjunct if the person recognises the physical and psychological factors feeding into the context of their suffering.
And knows where to seek specialist support from the multidisciplinary team.

Just spent the weekend teaching some of the physios who have taken the plunge into the world of pelvic health as part of the early implantation of the perinatal pelvic health expansion programme in south Cumbria and Lancs.
Supported by the fabulous who led the post-natal rehab session.
Exciting to see such enthusiasm for pelvic health from physios just starting out in the area, as well as physios with significant experience opening their minds to new ways of thinking.
Take home messages….Holistic approach….don’t ignore the “bio” but bring the psychosocial along with it…..remove the fear around movement..foster confidence and trust not dependence and disability….desensitise….release….graded exposure….load up…breathe through…
You could be part of this exciting programme in Cheshire and Merseyside! We are recruiting band 6 physios to work within our PPHE programme as fast followers in the national project.
No experience in pelvic health required ….training will be provided.

Today we are celebrating alongside our nursing and midwifery colleagues the wonderful work they do each day to give the best to the women/babies and their families cared for
It’s testament to the truly collaborative culture that we were invited as AHP’s to join in today on “international day of the midwife” acknowledging our role as AHPs in the holistic management of our patients.
I am proud to be part of the LWH family and prouder still to lead the team of truly inspirational clinicians who go the extra mile every day for our patients and each other.

PROLAPSE….Latin for “slipping”…and a term that strikes fear into the heart of many of my patients!
It’s basically when the support within the pelvis weakens due to many different factors and the pelvic organs start to “slip” into the vaginal vault.

What you tend to “feel” and sometimes see are the vaginal walls being pushed down.
The spectrum of symptoms is huge ranging from very mild to severe…and many women have prolapses and no symptoms at all!
One of the options for conservative management is having a pessary fitted..
This is a device that offers some extra support internally and can be hugely successful in relieving symptoms and preventing a prolapse from worsening.
Pessaries come in all shapes and sizes and need to be fitted by a specialist.
Yesterday I attended a great course back in my old home of London Town and learnt the art and science behind fitting them.
We suggest them as part of management to women of all ages and stages and it can be a total “game changer” in terms of allowing women to function comfortably and confidently to the level they want to.

we are fortunate to have the skills of nurse specialists expert in pessary fitting to refer to.

The power of words! . These are all quoted from patients following their sessions with me. . It saddens me on one hand that so few feel heard but also heartens me to be able to create an environment where people feel safe and supported enough to articulate their thoughts in a way that is meaningful to them. Therapy in itself! 🌟💖🙌🏻
