Interesting to see Egyptian blueberries in Waitrose, though sad that these were soft and mouldy. I'm sure there will be plenty available of great quality and I've been unlucky, but look closely if you are buying. Avoid any sign of white mould in the calyx.

In my local south Asian store today: delicious Kesar mango from India. £9.50 for a small box of 5-6 fruit or £20 per large box of 12 fruit. Hopefully you can do better, but, for me, the taste makes it worthwhile.

As the northern hemisphere apple season enters its last hurrah, it's interesting to see what long-stored varieties each supermarket chooses to stock as extras. In Asda, they have LoliPop and Honeycrisp from France, alongside Cherish from UK.

Here is a new Good Fruit Guide entry for LoliPop, a sweet, dense red variety bred in France, ideal for organic agriculture.

LoliPop is an intensely red coloured apple with sweet dense flesh and low acidity.
