Deaf Education through Listening and Talking DELTA is a national charity which supports deaf children and their families and professionals.

DELTA, Deaf Education through Listening and Talking, is a voluntary association of young deaf adults, the families and teachers of deaf children. DELTA is a national charity which supports and develops the Natural Aural Approach to the education of deaf children. We want a world in which deaf children are able to realise their full potential within their communities and we believe this is best ach

ieved through support to learn to listen and, thereby, acquire spoken language. We believe that the vast majority of deaf children can learn to listen and talk. We believe that all parents of deaf children should be given this option. Based on improving knowledge of the effectiveness of natural auralism, we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of deaf children and their families through sharing information, influencing training, providing support and campaigning for change. Both the Approach and the Association trace their origins back to a group of teachers of the deaf working together from 1980 to improve the outcomes for deaf children. The Association exists for the Approach and the Approach exists because of the work of the members of the Association.

Happy London Marathon Day!

Our fantastic five runners will be taking part in the 26.1 mile race throughout the capital today whilst fundraising for DELTA. We wish Ryan, Lucy, Heulwen, Claire and TJ the absolute luck and to enjoy the experience.

They have had months of training and fundraising to prepare for the run (it looks like to be nice weather today) and at last count, they have raised nearly a brilliant ÂŁ5,000 so far for DELTA. We are delighted to say that some of these funds will be going towards the development of our new parent guide - a resource for families of deaf children, to find and be signposted to much needed support.

Please do support them either by following them on the race, cheer for them when you see them on TV or even donating to their pages to say thank you.

DELTA (Deaf Education through Listening and Talking) is a small charity, started in 1980 by a group of teachers of the deaf, passionate about giving deaf children and their families the information and skills they needed to ensure that they had the best possible start in life and were able to seize their opportunities.

DELTA believes that the majority of deaf children can learn to speak the language of the home, with appropriate amplification and support. This enables them to be an active independent part of the family and wider community.

We are looking for people with the skills to help steer the charity through the next phase as we look for ways to work with families and professionals in the new digital era when families and authorities are strapped for cash and time! Either as part of the trustee board which is made up of professionals, parents and deaf adults or to help with a specific task.

The trustees meet face to face once a year, one weekend in the autumn and online on the last Thursday evening of each month, the meeting is usually 1 ½ to 2 hours. Sub groups meet to suit their members.

We have six online professional CPD sessions each year and online drop-in sessions for families. We have recently enjoyed meeting up with some of the volunteers with regional reunions, and there is enthusiasm to hold face to face events for families again.

If you are enthusiastic about supporting the charity to promote opportunities for deaf children and or are interested in joining the trustees, we would love to hear from you.

We look forward to hear from you!
