Meet Lisa, Oral Health Assistant ❤

I have worked for the Childsmile Team since August 2009. My job involves setting up the toothbrushing programme in schools and nurseries in North Ayrshire.

I enjoy the variety that my job offers which makes everyday different. Being able to talk to children about their oral health and showing them good toothbrushing techniques is rewarding.

In my spare time I enjoy baking, reading and spending time with my family and friends.

Meet Helen, Oral Health Improvement Facilitator 🦷❤

I have worked with the OHI team for 13 years and have been working with NHS Ayrshire and Arran for 30 years! I cover the full of Ayrshire and Arran but you will mostly find me in the North. I deliver all of our national training programmes, do oral health drop-in’s and events. I enjoy meeting and chatting with lots of different people about their oral health.

When I am not working, I am involved with a local community group. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and going on a cruise when I can.

Thank you very much to Dementia Friendly Largs & District for inviting us along to the Dining Immersive Experience Training (DIET). The training was very informative, and it was lovey to meet the other service users & carers. 🥛 🍽 🪥🦷

Meet Lorraine, Dental Health Support Worker 🦷❤

I’ve worked with the Childsmile Team for nearly 8 years and I’m based in East Ayrshire. I love the wide variety of my job, but especially going into schools and nurseries, meeting lots of new people and seeing familiar faces along the way.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going on holidays, and heading to my local running club twice a week.

Every year, over 8,800 people in the UK are diagnosed with mouth cancer. Early detection can save lives — yet many cases are found too late.

🔍 Know the symptoms: Persistent ulcers or sores. Lumps in the mouth or neck. Red or white patches. Difficulty swallowing or speaking.

Meet Sharon, Oral Health Improvement lead 🦷❤

I have worked within NHS Ayrshire and Arran for 31 years and have been part of the OHI team for 7 years. I cover all of Ayrshire and Arran. I am the lead for our Homeless and Prison priority groups. I particularly enjoy our two main annual campaigns - National Smile Month (NSM) and Mouth Cancer Action Month (MCAM) where I meet many members of the public as well as other NHS staff. This is a great opportunity to help them to gain access to dental care, help them improve their oral health as well as raise awareness of oral cancer. The Oral Health Improvement Team recently won the NSM Award at The Dental Awards 2025, we are a great team!

My interests out of work are spending time with the grandchildren, holidays and gardening.
