We're a group of volunteers who provide a service & independence to patients registered at the Medical centre, who can't drive or have limited mobility.

Phew! Just. Blown. Away.
We asked for help with volunteer coordinators and you responded, with calls, texts, messages to the page, by sharing, by caring and by turning up in person. Thank you Elizabeth M, Fiona J, Moira, Paula N, Lindsay & Hattie, Becky R, Hannah T, Linda T, Estelle O, Jorja, Victoria S (and apologies for those missed out). Thank you also to Breeze R and Caron, compliance queens for proactive discussions on GDPR issues. Thank you also to potential new drivers Breeze and Jenny.

WE MAY HAVE A WAY FORWARD.
Can't say too much ATM but we will keep you posted.

An Important Request from the Committee and Trustees

(With details of a buffet, towards the end, because cake makes bad news easier🥹 ).

Over the past few months, the committee has been working hard behind the scenes to recruit more volunteer coordinators for Collingham & District Village Care. Despite our best efforts, this has proven much tougher than expected — and we now face a critical challenge.

Due to personal circumstances, there is likely to be a period in the next couple of months when no coordinator will be available for several weeks. Without coordinators, the service simply can’t run — they are the engine room of what we do, matching passengers to drivers and keeping everything ticking along.

So having asked our wonderful network of drivers - now we’re turning directly to you — our service users and supporters — because between you, your families, and your networks, there’s a huge wealth of knowledge, capability and heart.

We’re asking:

Do you, or someone you know, have the time and willingness to step in — even just for a week — to help cover the phones and organise journeys?

Volunteer coordinators do it their way! We have the phone on three times a week and the coordinators answer calls and texts, allocating drivers.
Are they at the beck and call of the phone? No. A busy day might mean allocating 10 drives. Often it's much less. It's lovely to talk to service users and drivers and Coordinators get to know everybody pretty quickly. Sometimes they put the phone to answerphone when they've got their own commitments and check it out towards the end of the day.

Service users can call the phone 18 hours per week (9-3pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), so it's really easy and the week flies by. Full handover, training, and support will be given.

We know this is no small ask. But if no one is able to help, we may be forced to suspend the service for up to five weeks - possibly more — something we want to avoid at all costs because many of our passengers rely on us as their only means of getting to essential medical appointments.

Stepping in, even temporarily, could make all the difference — and might even help us build some much-needed future resilience. At the moment, we’re heavily dependent on just two amazing coordinators, and life inevitably happens.

If you think you might be able to help, or just want to know more, our coordinators would be happy to chat about what the role involves — with no obligation.
You could also pop and meet us Monday 23rd June at the Cricket club from 4-30 to 6-30pm for AGM (Mercifully short) followed by a buffet . (If you've read this far - you deserve it!!)

Us grumpy? Never!

Our wonderful volunteer drivers give their availability a week in advance planned around their work and personal commitments.

Getting a lift like NOW is slim to nil.

So we do planned medical appointments only.

(Unless of course you know about a spare box of drivers you’ve been hiding - or even better , those elusive and totally essential coordinators? 😉)

We’re doing what we can with what we’ve got folks ( and that’s a lot!)

“Why haven’t they called me back?”

Folks,
We’re running on fumes. Our team of volunteers have had a few curveballs to deal with because life sends lemons doesn’t it?
We won’t be able to respond if you call us outside of our core hours which are 9-3 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We will call back when we’re next around.

You get to know people in the Village as well as make a huge difference - it's rewarding!

We take people from Collingham and the surrounding villages to Medical Appointments for;-

-Doctors/Nurses appointments
-Getting dressings changed regularly
-The pain clinic
-Chemotherapy
-Day surgery
-Hip Replacements
-Cataract ops

Does this sound familiar?

You or someone you know's been waiting months for a medical appointment about something that's a worry. Then they get a cancellation to come in TOMORROW.

If you can't drive or are reliant on public transport it's a bit of a NIGHTMARE isn't it?

We're getting more of these coming through and our bloody wonderful coordinators and drivers move heaven and earth to respond, to help, to make a difference!
...and we need more. We're a lifeline for so many people.
