Bonfire Night is upon us 🔥 Flames will flicker and the sky will light up with the popping of pyrotechnics. Unfortunately, burns happen. You may recall one of our old Monday Myth Busters, telling you what NOT to do...
Myth: Butter on Burns 🧈
The idea of putting butter on a burn was even recommended by Prussian first aid pioneer, General Friedrich Von Esmarch. But I’m sorry to say, this time he missed the Esmarch.
Just like that joke, using butter for burns isn’t great as it retains heat and can increase the risk of infection and scaring.
What’s worse – the butter needs to be scrubbed off in hospital before receiving the correct treatment – ouch! 😢
