"I had Anna as my clinical psychologist for cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and I loved it. She was always on time, passionate, non-judgemental and understanding. She was intentional and exceptional. Many thanks to her, there has been improvement in my mental health now."

As we approach the festive season, it is important to acknowledge the challenges that this time of year may present for many individuals, particularly for those who may be grappling with alcohol addiction or supporting a loved one who is. ๐Ÿ’™

In light of this, we would like to share some ways to help you navigate the festive period with greater ease.๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿคš Limit alcohol exposure - The consumption of alcohol tends to peak during the holiday season, making it challenging to avoid. However, with proactive planning, it is certainly achievable. We encourage you to engage in an open conversation with someone you trust about your concerns and the triggers you may encounter. Being honest about your needs is a sign of strength and it is entirely reasonable to establish healthy boundaries.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Address loneliness - While many individuals will find themselves surrounded by family and friends during Christmas, it is crucial to recognise that feelings of loneliness can still persist. Alcoholism can foster a sense of isolation, leading individuals to withdraw from social interactions or avoid certain environments. While it is wise to steer clear of alcohol-related events, it is equally vital to combat loneliness and isolation, which can have detrimental effects. We encourage you to seek the support of a compassionate relative, friend, or local community group this Christmas to mitigate feelings of solitude.

โœ๏ธ Maintain a healthy routine - Although Christmas is a time of celebration for many, it need not disrupt your established healthy routine. If you have found success with a particular regimen, we recommend adhering to it. Consider creating a structured plan for your day, from morning until night. Additionally, devise a contingency plan to prepare for any potentially uncomfortable situations you may encounter.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Continue treatment - It is essential to maintain consistency in your treatment during the festive season. Treatment sessions will continue to be available and we encourage you to attend your sessions with your Recovery Practitioner as scheduled, both in the lead-up to Christmas and afterward.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ Ensure medication continuity - Be mindful that pharmacies may have limited hours during the holiday period. If you are on medication, please ensure you have an adequate supply for the duration of the festivities and that you are adhering to the prescribed dosage.
