Shoutout to my client who's been putting in the hard work over these past 9 months, hitting the weights hard while balancing with a high stress, shift based job.

Social media is full of people selling quick fixes and rapid weight loss promises. But in reality, unless you have all the time and money in the world, these things take time. And unless you install the right habits, that weight will go straight back on.

The process can be long. But, the trick here is to jump into the process and enjoy the progress you make.

Going from being someone who had never lifted weights properly, to being one of my strongest clients... repping out 50kg on the bench for a relative beginner is impressive!

We've made some solid body recomposition changes as well since Nov, with only 3kg difference between the two photos.

Muscle growth while dropping fat can be done.

This is why we want to focus on FAT loss not WEIGHT loss... make sure you know the difference.

Drop me a message if you want to start your fat loss and muscle growth journey.

The World's Greatest Stretch 🌍🏋🏻‍♂️🏋🏻‍♀️

To be fair, I've not got official clarification that it is... But it sounds good, and it's what Squat University called it, so I'm gonna roll with it.

Its a great all over body mobiliser before your workout, hitting ankles, hips, shoulders and thoracic spine.

So if you've been sat in the office or at home all day, and headed straight to the gym to lift weights, this one's for you.

Also gets the heart rate up a little, it's by no means an easy relaxing stretch. Shoulder stabilisers, lower body and core muscles working plenty to hold a good position.

Warming up on the crosstrainer is ok at best... but you can make your warm up a whole lot better by adding in a couple active stretches like these.

We're only just getting started!

15 weeks ago I told Derek dream big. Abs and definition is something he thought he just didn't have. But i told him, they're there (he still didnt believe me but got stuck in nonetheless).

Now, it's starting to sink in that he can actually do it.

He started off this cut at 112.6kg.

15 weeks later his hitting 103.4kg! 🔥🔥🔥

A bodyweight he's told me he's not seen for a good 20 years, maybe more!

It's been a hard process, habits have needed to change, and calories have had to be cut. But after a tricky, eye opening 1st week, he's got stuck in, and has been learning about how his body works throughout.

Confidence levels are high, and he's now moving better, has better posture (check his the alignment of his spine and head in the photos), and continues to push solid numbers in the gym, meaning we've maintained some solid muscle mass.

And he's done all this while maintaining a busy, stressful work schedule that often sees him finishing late in the day, working with clients in different time zones.

And you know what, he's a top geeza as well!!!

The finish line is getting ever closer. The dream will soon be a reality. Can't wait to see what the next 12 weeks will deliver!!!!

I love it when a plan comes together! 😅

Bulky vs Lean

Feb 16/17% body fat 84kg
vs
June 9/10% body fat 77kg

Progress photos...

Progressing towards a current goal for sure, but I don't want to detract from the fact I actually like aspects of both physiques.

That said its been enjoyable and interesting watching how my body changes.

The goal over summer will be to see how well I can maintain condition. Maybe a very gradual lean bulk/strength phase.

Still need to hit that 250kg deadlift
Still need to grow some calves

Stop Doing This Exercise For Your Shoulder Health

Typically used as a warm up for your shoulders, dumbbell shoulder external rotations don't challenge your external rotators effectively.

Gravity is working to pull the weight down, meaning all the tension is on your biceps and not your shoulder external rotators.

High External Rotations are marginally better, but ultimately suffer from the same problem.

Instead, better alternatives are the cable rotations or banded rotations/pull aparts

Both provide far better resistance profiles, and ultimately keeps tension on the muscles you're trying to target.

Weight used should be very light, the muscles used are small. If using a band, the thinest, lowest resistance band should be fine.

Try reps of between 12 and 20, however, this isn't typically something you'd go to failure on. Instead, you're looking for a light burn deep with the shoulder.

Give them a try and see the dramatic difference

Set the goals you want, not what you think others want.

A steady pace can be better than cutting fast and furiously.

Amy has been hitting a slow and steady fat loss phase with me... emphasising that she doesn't want to lose too much too fast. And importantly the need to balance with a high stress workload working as an emergency veterinary nurse.

A leaner, but muscular look being the goal... ultimately not too shredded. I think we're both a fan of the more bulky look as opposed to being ripped.

Powerlifting training has taken a break, instead we switched to a more moderate/higher rep based Upper/Lower training programme.

Fundamentally, we're still looking to define and lean up, ultimately dropping some kgs in bodyweight.

Quantities of food and snacks (cough bubble tea, cough) have been reduced, but a healthy relationship with food maintained.

So far so good. 3 months in!

Second 61kg

We've got 1 more month of a cut, hopefully looking to drop another kg or 2, and then it's holiday time 🌊☀️

Consistency is key 🔑

After being a complete Beginner in the gym Fred has managed to get in the best shape of his life so far. Very proud of how much he's taken on board. There's no surprise he's one of my hardest working clients.

Balancing a busy work schedule and a few aches and pains hasn't been easy, but Fred has kept consistent and worked the training sessions into his diary, even when it's proved tricky and at times stressful.

We've been working together a while now, but 3 months ago we decided to switch from a maintenence period into a cut. The goal being to get some good amount of fat off in 12 months and get under 15% bf.

We managed a solid 6kg drop in bodyweight, and a very nice improvement in definition.

Starting weight 73.8kg
Current weight 67.8kg

Awesome work!

Next step is a little diet break, going into maintenence calories while he's on holiday. Then another little push to get a bit more fat off.

Once we're both happy with the fat loss, it'll be into a lean bulk to add some more muscle to his frame.

Enjoying being part of the journey 💪🏻
